Large rooms with comfortable bed right on the beach. Easy walking to many tourist shops and many restaurants. Lots of fresh seafood available from these restaurants. Staff was very friendly and eager to help with a smile. The restaurant prepared a seafood grill each night and set tables with candies at the edge of the surf. Breakfast was very good with lots of fruit and an omelette station as well as curry. Can’t go wrong staying here.

Tartaruga Hotel offers a fantastic 4-star experience, a welcome change after a series of 3-star or less maintained hotels. The hotel is in excellent condition, with spacious, well-maintained rooms and comfortable beds. Both the hotel and restaurant staff are friendly and eager to help. The pool is well-kept, and the air conditioning works perfectly, as does the shower with its very hot water. There's also free parking for your tuk-tuk. The location is perfect, right on the beach and close to everything in Unawatuna. We had a great stay and would definitely come here again!
The only minor drawback is the lack of an elevator, so be prepared to climb stairs if your room is on an upper floor.

We didn’t like our first room and the people at the front desk gave us a different room a few days later…which was so much better! The staff was great, the food was great, and we enjoyed staying there. The pool was small but we enjoyed using it to cool off in. The beach had a steep drop, so was hard if you didn’t know how to swim, but you can walk to the end of the beach and find a gently sloping area to swim in…
