Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel (Original Dutch Governors House)

It’s like an oasis in busy Unawatuna, close walk to the beach and shops and 15 minutes in tuk tuk to Galle. Peaceful, beautiful garden and pool. Delicious breakfast, beautiful staff

Formerly home to the Dutch governor, the hotel is renovated to keep remnants from the colonial era while offering a peaceful stay. The staff were friendly and the hotel spans over a large area, housing two swimming pools, a reading room and hall rooms housing memorabilia from the Dutch era. The facilities were clean, the breakfast was great and the hotel is located right next to the main road that leads to Galle. Beware of monkeys that roam around the hotel premises and sometimes make their presence felt on the top of the rooms at night!

I did not use the pool. But the breakfast buffet and the room were very good.

The wifi was slow and I used my personal internet connection there.

Lovely old building, kept clean, and beautiful grounds. Balcony overlooking the gardens. Good swimming pool.

I would describe the accommodation as faded elegance. Our room was comfortable but certainly needed an update. The balcony door had to be bolted as the closing mechanism did not work. The shower door was dated and did not close properly. The air conditioning is old and noisy. The reception staff were efficient, but brusque. Also, signs in the room in Russian reflects that at least half of the guests were Russian, in keeping with Unawatuna generally.
