Residenza Ester

We were staying north of Sorrento and wanted to experience the Amalfi Coast without the hordes of tourists that come for the day, so we booked this room at the last minute for a very good price (140 euro). The room was convenient to access from the ferry landing but in a quiet location away from the main street. There are actually multiple ways to access the building from the main street, but it would have been be easy to get lost if we hadn't followed the directions we were sent. Our room was one of several that shared an entry room at the top of the stairs. We did not meet the host but communicated online. We really appreciated the ability to access the room early by self-check in to drop our luggage so we could experience Amalfi unencumbered. The room was cute with hardwood floors, a beamed ceiling, and wooden shutters, and the bed was large and comfortable. There was a small drop table with supplies to make instant coffee or tea and a single chair. We especially appreciated the mini refrigerator. There is a supermarket nearby (just off the main street) with a good selection and reasonable prices (but limited hours and closed on Sundays).

Overall, the room was very clean, but the shower had some hard water crustiness and mold and needs more thorough cleaning. This being Amalfi, there were quite a few stairs to reach the unit, as expected. The stairs from the security gate at the bottom up to access the rooms are particularly steep and long and could be problematic for those with vertigo or mobility issues. Since we never saw anyone present to help with luggage on those stairs, we advise to pack light. Overall, Amalfi is an expensive place to stay, and by those standards, the price we paid was very good. However, the prices listed for 2027 are significantly higher, so we would consider other properties at those prices.

Perfect. And the AC in all the rooms is amazing.
