Sunset House Ceningan, 10 person beachview private villa

The open living space was stunning and had a beautiful view. The location was very nice and peaceful and the staff were very friendly and attentive!

There were a couple things that needed maintenance - mainly one of the bungalows smelt of mold or mildew and one of the pool lights had an exposed wire.

Great Location & view of the channel. The two boys Nanga & Norman were very attentive & informative. Easy to order food & delivery. There was a cafe next door, great food.

Beautiful property. Nicely decorated. Comfortable. Lovely pool. Wonderful views.

On a very busy road with scooter’s and cars driving from early to late at night.

Location is good. Walking distance to restaurants and easy access to yellow bridge. The rooms are cute. The pool is lovely. The view is what sets this place apart. Staff are lovely and very helpful. They owner communicated well and was responsive, arranging a lovely birthday cake for us, island tour etc.

Towels and bedding need replacing, towels particularly were very stained. Security could be much better, the front door lock to the villa is very flimsy, the wall could be scaled and we even had a couple who wandered in to ask if they could have a ‘beer at the pool’ they thought it was a hotel!! Occasional power cuts on the island aren’t the fault of the owner but the villa could have been much better prepared with candles for us to use. Thankfully they went out and got us some so this really helped. Given the money we paid, we expected a backup generator would’ve been in place as you not only don’t have electricity, the water (sink, toilet, showers) doesn’t work in a power cut either.

The view was amazing, watching the tides and the sunsets. We loved the shared space and the pool. Easy walk to restaurants and Yellow bridge. Ketut was very helpful if we needed anything. Loved it

Very open and close to the main thoroughfare. No security measures on site, no safes in the main house 2 bedrooms. The safes in the 3 individual huts are non electronic ( key form) and not attached to anything. You can literally pick up the safe and remove it from the room. No CCTV We had a substantial amount of money stolen from our locked bedroom. The owner/manager and police arrived to investigate. Still awaiting police report from the 31st of July. No communication or follow up from the owner since we checked out.

The villa has the best views in Ceningan. There is a road between the villa and the water, but you feel more connected to life on the island (like chatting with seaweed farmers) than being tucked away. It is a short walk to the beach clubs and restaurants nearby, and Amore Cafe had the sweetest staff and best breakfasts. The girls would drop a takeaway coffee or pastry over the fence - it was so close the villa wifi works from their waterfront tables! Travel from the ferry in Lembongan to Sunset Villa was seamless, it could not have been easier and the staff were fantastic, helping with motorbike hire etc.

We loved everything about Sunset House, it was our favourite stay in Bali. It is worth noting three of the bedrooms are separate and freestanding 'huts' which suited us with teens, but maybe less so if you have young children. Be aware there is early morning noise from roosters and the road, which did not bother us at all - it is part of being in such a handy position. The long table was perfect, some more comfy lounging chairs in the living area might be nice.

The house seems magical from the photos and reviews. However, as stated in previous reviews, the location is DIRECTLY on the main road which allows anyone to stare directly into your "private villa". The fence itself is about shoulder height with no barbed wire, there are no security cameras or on site staff, and the front door itself doesn't lock fully (see attached video). I didn't think any of this would be too big of a problem because its a small island, but in the end, we were left traumatized. I booked this as a bachelorette getaway for my friends. Instead we left with horrific memories. We woke up to a strange local man standing over my friend in the middle of the night asking her for sex. Thank god we were able to get him out safely. That's when I noticed the front door is faulty and doesn't even lock. When I contacted the manager, no one came or did anything which left us feeling terrified all night. When he finally did come around 6am, he aggressively interrogated her before agreeing to report the incident to the police while we went on snorkeling tour. As the day went on, he offered no resolution whatsoever. When confronting him again on how they would erradicated the situation, he went on to say that it was our fault that her bedroom door wasn't fully locked and that the police didn't believe us. That's when I requested the direct contact info of villa owner. He called immediately and seemed to be far more concerned and horrified; apparently THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED BEFORE!! (see screenshots) I explained how having a villa on the main road with no security measures puts people, especially a group of solo women, in danger and he is lucky we weren't r*ped or worse. He agreed.

The entire experience has been deeply traumatizing to us all. Not even in a "private villa" that we paid good money for are we safe from not only sexual abuse, but men denying and diminishing our experience for their gain. The lack of security cameras, no on-site staff, a low fence on the main road with full access to the villa, and a front lock that doesn't function put our entire party in serious danger. Please please please be safe out there!!!! I do not recommend this house at all, especially for women. It is obvious that the man who broke in was watching us prior (because of the main fence being low and open to the public) and noticed we were a group of women alone. Please see attached screen shots with property admin, local manager, and the property owner. When I asked for a full refund or even to at least pay for our dinner for the upheaval, he declined claiming no responsibility (see screenshots). I then escalated the experience to Booking.com where the owner then DENIED all allegations despite me alread screenshots and video proof (of the door not locking), saying we fabricated the story. Please be serious, why would we spend our mere 36 hours on a tropical island villa dealing with sexual harassment allegations for fun? I am appalled at the behavior of all people involved with this case and hold the property owner, the local staff, and booking.com. On a more logistical note in regards to the villa itself: there are only 3 personal cabanas, the other two smaller rooms are connected to the kitchen area. The wifi wasn't very strong, we had to go to a cafe to get service. As inspiration from previous reviews saying they ordered flower arrangements from the staff ahead of time, I requested the word "wife" to be displayed on the bed. However, after learning the price I decided to bring my own decor to the villa! UPDATE: Booking.
