Location and facilities

Too many stairs. Could do with a bit more attention to cleanliness. It was noisy at points.

The location is fantastic, the beds are comfortable, the showers are amazing. The house is well equipped with everything you need. We were earlier than expected and Sarah said we would be fine to check in earlier than planned which was great and much appreciated. Sarah was also easily contactable and responsive which was really helpful.

Our main concern is that the stairs and the associated brass wall hardware that hold the rope hand support are a very serious hazard. The booking confirmation message had warned us about the "old windy staircases", and we had all been very careful when using them. The stairs themselves were not an issue for our child. However, because you are so conscious of watching your footing on the steep, winding stairs, it is very easy to miss the protruding brass wall fixings. While descending the lower set of stairs, my husband's left knee collided with one of these fixings, causing a serious puncture wound to his kneecap requiring medical treatment and an X-ray at Torbay hospital A&E. This happened on the morning or our third day. We would strongly advise future guests to be particularly aware of these protruding brass fittings in addition to their footing. A more suitable handrail without protruding fixings would make these stairs much safer.
