The house was extremely clean and the beds were very good. Wifi was great. Lovely little suntrap back garden. There’s a Co-op less than 10 minutes walk away. Excellent greasy spoon breakfast cafe - the Park Cafe - less than 10 mins in the other direction, with a Tesco Express on the way back. Very easy communication with the hosts, who emailed throughout to check in and make sure we were doing well. Very easy check in and departure. Changed the parking permit between 2 cars during and that was super fast and no issue. Lovely little sitting room for get-togethers, great sized kitchen, mostly complete amenities and very nice neighbours who loaned us a can opener :) We bought some more dishwasher tablets, bin bags, salt and pepper, olive oil and toilet roll and left them there hopefully for the next renters (though who knows if the cleaning folks take them - also, no judgement !) as there were enough laundry tablets but we were shy for a week of the rest. We also couldn’t find the coffee machine pods in the co-op, Lidl or Tesco nearby so bought some Lavazza instant instead that we left there too.

I don’t care about AC, having grown up in England, and international travelers should understand very few homes have AC in Europe. The hosts provided AC units but they were very loud (I wouldn’t have even tried them, I was travelling with a US partner). There was no chopping board, which would be an excellent addition; we left the plastic plate we used as one. No tin opener, but we found one we could borrow going down the street and knocking on doors ! Grey sofa in living room quite broken, cushions are pretty shredded and uncomfortable and it’s probably due replacing. The downstairs toilet would benefit from a wall mirror so folks don’t have to climb the stairs to tidy before leaving (a couple of people referenced this, just feeding back re easy upgrade to customer experience). An extra tea towel would have been good - we felt kind of bad using a hand towel. There were only 5 forks which meant when we had dinner for 6 (for a house that’s advertised for 8) we were short. Take care of the little details !

I like the fact it was walking distance to all the the attractions of Southsea.

It wasn’t clean on arrival, there were dirty marks on surfaces, such as counter tops, cupboards, glass, etc, plus dog hair everywhere. The cleaning staff were responsive & came out to clean the property, it was an improvement, but still hair everywhere, as it needs a deep clean, really. Also there was no bedding provided for the sofa bed, which the staff did bring the following day, but we were only there two nights, so it was inconvenient. I requested my cleaning fee be returned, but have had no reply to my two requests.

We originally booked the "Modern Townhouse 3-BR, Sleeps 8" by Blue Puffin, attracted by its contemporary design and convenient location near the beach. However, two days before our scheduled check-in, I received an email from Blue Puffin informing us that the boiler in our chosen property was broken. They offered us the option to either cancel our booking or stay at an alternative property. The email stated, "We will be upgrading you to one of our more luxurious properties in Portsmouth. You will now be staying at Tide Cottage, a stunning property with a coastal theme, which is much bigger than Maxwell Manor. This property features three bedrooms and one master bathroom with a shower over the bath and a separate en-suite with a shower.” Pressed for time and reassured by the positive reviews and decent photos, we reluctantly accepted the change. The new location was indeed more convenient, with a supermarket just a few minutes away. However, this is where the positives ended. Tide Cottage, despite recent renovations, felt old and had an unpleasant, musty odor. The rooms were small, and the "master bathroom" was essentially a cramped space tucked inside a cupboard. The steep stairs and low windows posed significant safety hazards for our toddler, and the overall cleanliness was questionable at best. One of the bedrooms had a foul-smelling carpet with what appeared to be a pet stain, likely from a cat, rendering it unsuitable for us to sleep in, especially with a child. The windows, which couldn’t be safely opened, only added to our discomfort. The layout of the property, with its fireplaces and lack of plain walls, made it incredibly challenging to find a suitable spot for a baby cot. I reached out to Blue Puffin to express our concerns, only to receive a response emphasising that Tide Cottage had been "meticulously upgraded to an extremely high standard" and that previous guests, including families, had left glowing reviews.
