Domum Retro Comunist Apartment

It’s a great spacious apartment right in the centre of Bucharest. Surprisingly quiet for where it is. Apart from the modern TVs (which we didn’t use) and the wifi, it’s pretty authentic in terms of what an 80s apartment would have looked like - brought back memories of my first stay in Bucharest in the 90s. Obviously the well-stocked supermarket and fast food outlets just across the road were not there in the 80s, so you still need to use your imagination! Lots of fascinating objects - it’s a bit like living in a museum.

There was no plug for the bathtub! (Then again, I did have that issue in Romania in the 90s, so maybe it’s part of the experience). There was building work going on in the courtyard - sometimes it sounded like people were trying to remove materials or scrap metal in the middle of the night, and sometimes the (already narrow) staircase was partially obstructed.

Jestem bardzo zadowolona z pobytu. Szczególnie dobrze oceniam kontakt z Gospodarzem, który sam zaproponował możliwość wcześniejszego zakwaterowania, gdyż apartament był już wolny, Co prawda nie skorzystałam, za to poprosiłam o możliwość późniejszego opuszczenia lokalu, z czym nie było problemu. Apartament utrzymany w klimacie komunizmu. Dla mnie osoby która pamięta PRL to wspomnienie przeszłości. Nie ma co oczekiwać nowych sprzętów i luksusów, ale taki jest zamysł tego miejsca. Świetna lokalizacja, do miejsc które mnie interesowały mogłam dojść pieszo.

L'appartamento è molto particolare, arredato in stile anni '50 con molta oggettistica d'epoca. Pulizia eccellente e ottimi servizi. L'aspetto più favorevole è sicuramente la posizione. Collegata a tutti i mezzi di spostamento (stazione bus e taxi) e vicinissima al centro storico (5 minuti a piedi). Self check-in molto semplice. Grazie ancora di tutto all'host, persona gentilissima e sempre disponibile.

Struttura un pò fatiscente che a tratti emana odori spiacevoli, ma è normale, è una casa d'epoca. Per il resto tutto perfetto. Per pochi giorni è una soluzione ideale.

The location was great, and the flat was very spacious with lots of character. It has a distinctive feel and plenty of room, which we really appreciated.

Unfortunately, the flat needs much more care and attention. It was very dusty and could really do with a deep clean. The biggest disappointment was the lack of a cooker, which we did not expect from a self-contained flat, we could not even make eggs for breakfast. There is also no air conditioning, so it can get very hot during summer days. Several things also need fixing or improving. There is no washing machine, the cold tap in the kitchen was broken, and the shower was very impractical, with nowhere to hang the shower head and no shower curtain, meaning the bathroom became soaked every time we showered.
