Piccadilly, Soho 1 BR Sleep 6 VR1

Wij waren in Londen voor een voorstelling in het Sondheimtheater. Voor ons was de locatie dus perfect. Betaalbaar voor een kamer in hartje Londen, in een drukke, maar fijne buurt. De kamer was basic, maar comfortabel, ideaal voor een kortverblijf in het centrum van Londen. Voor wie met 5 komt en ook het sofabed moet gebruiken: in een review van iemand anders lazen we dat het sofabed niet was opgemaakt en er dus geen dekbed en kussen voor de 5e persoon aanwezig was, hoewel dat wel duidelijk gevraagd was. Bij aankomst leek dat ook bij ons het geval te zijn, maar alles bleek gewoon netjes in de kast klaar te liggen. Je moet het sofabed dus zelf nog opdekken, maar alles is zeker voorzien voor een 5e persoon. Duidelijke communicatie van de accomodatie over hoe binnen te geraken.

Bij hoge temperaturen buiten is de kamer behoorlijk warm, en de ramen kunnen omwille van veiligheid niet volledig opengezet worden (wel op een kier). Gelukkig was er wel een ventilator beschikbaar, die voldoende verkoeling gaf, maar die we ook heel de nacht op hebben laten staan, niet ideaal als je een lichte slaper bent. Je kan op de kamer slapen met 5 personen, maar ze is duidelijk vooral voorzien voor 4 personen: er zijn maar 4 stoelen, dus met 5 is het een beetje plantrekken. En een koffiemachine op de kamer zou fijn zijn.

The washing machine was broken so we were unable to do washing

It is really at the heart of the city.

No kitchen appliances, one of the sockets caused smoke just by plugging in the kettle, pillows were not comfortable.

Location was amazing, right down the street from Piccadilly Circus. Directly on the same street with many popular theatre shows. The number of beds was a definite plus for a family with a double bed, single bunks and a long sofa. Lots of available bed linen and bath towels. Lift was working during our stay. Ease of check in was nice and well communicated by email. There was a floor standing fan provided and windows do open a few centimetres for fresh air. Tv was nice to watch after a full days worth of walking around London. Lots of restaurants, cafes and pubs right outside the building entry but this did make for a noisy Saturday night, make sure to bring ear plugs. Free wifi was great and close proximity to bus stops and underground stations.

Unfortunately, the apartment and building are tired. Some paint refresh and minor repairs would make a huge improvement on the first impression The kitchen equipment (dishes, glasses, utensils) are slim pickings. There were no cloths or paper towel to do dishes, so had to use a bath towel. The laundry washer door hinge was broken and we were not sure if it was ok to use. Reached out to the host a couple of times for checkin and washer info but never received any responses other than what felt like automated emails for checkin and checkout, warning of additional costs for any damages. Ended up doing some small laundry in the kitchen sink as we did not want to cause a water leak if the washer door didn't seal. Cleaning seems to be from the waist level down as door frame top in the washroom had visibly furry with dust that has been there for some time. Unfortunately, we had to evacuate the building Sunday due to a fire alarm and after standing outside for approximately 30 minutes, we did not see any fire department officials, just a couple of security personnel that were in and out of the building often (residents had to provide door code) but no updates were provided to the occupants standing in the street. We ended up leaving and upon return, all seemed to be returned to normal.
