BUNKER BEACH @ ISLA VERDE / Beach Front

I love that it was close to the beach and close to all the amenities restaurants and there was a Walgreens right across the street as well as my Rent-A-Car facility was right across the street. My boys loved the apartment they all had their own quarters and it was quite spacious and they love the pool table and I love the add-ons that Jose provided such as a basketball the beach toys for my three-year-old son and sunscreen. It also had parking which means a huge plus.

The water wasn’t hot. It was warm and at times a bit cold but overall we still showered and had a great time. My boys loved it. I would definitely come back to this location. The only thing I would love if there was a little toaster oven so that we can reheat food outside of the microwave.

The property is beachfront! Even though we toured other beaches, our home beach Isla Verde was our favorite. I liked the quirkiness of it: the unit is a converted cafe (I think - it has legacy industrial venting installed). Jose and his partner did a good job of leaning into the modern industrial look while decorating it with some homey touches, like the cute decoration inside the entryway. The billiard table was GREAT! Really happy there was a reserved parking space, as we had rented a car to tour the island. Some of our favorite meals were in the immediate neighborhood - cheers to the 24-7 pizza & mofongos restaurant across the street, open when we got there at 1am. Jose & partner supplied some folding chairs and some other beach supplies, which was convenient.

Only one small window, but lit well otherwise. My partner found the public, commercial, first-floor entryway to be a little off-putting at first, the rest of us had no problem with it and the kitchen wall and blinds made us all forget it when were in the unit. There were some repairs or maintenance work going during several mornings that made sleeping in for my teens a little harder. The shower handle/shut-off was 7 feet off the ground - tricky for my 5ft partner. Accessing the parking garage and beach itself was a little awkward but manageable.

Lots of things were provided like beach towels and chairs. I liked the pool table too. The host responded fast when I told him the shower didn’t have any hot water and he came and replaced the water heater.

The only place with semi hot water was the shower. Everything else was cold water. Also the water pressure in the shower was so low it was hard to rinse the shampoo out of our hair. I also didn’t like that there was only one exit and no windows. If there had been a fire in the front of the storefront (because that’s what this was) we wouldn’t have been able to get out.
