Stunning 3 bedroom House with amazing Castle view

location, quality of furnishings, accommodation (once we got into it!)

1. we were only allowed one set of keys for 3 people. this made entry and exit difficult as we didn't always want to go out and in at same time. 2. we arrived at the address we had been given for the property which was a shop. we retrieved keys from keysafe but keysafe was not at location of the door that actually gave entrance to the property. the agent/owners need to explain where the door is that gives access to an alleyway to the property. after a very long journey this was a bit stressful. 3. also this property is not suitable for anyone with mobility or heavy luggage issues as access to the front door is up 2 steps and then up stairs to the next floor.

The house is beautiful and right in the heart of Alnwick. The decor, furniture and facilites are subtly chic and functional. The taste of whoever furnished the place is impeccable, and staying there felt like a luxurious treat. The bus station is three minutes walk away, as is the castle. The owner's communications are efficient and friendly; access is simply explained. I can't imagine a better self+catering place to stay for two adult coast-walkers. Highly recommended.

If I'm being really picky I'd improve the lighting in the dining area by shining some upwards to reflect down off the beautiful ceiling and fill the room with a glow. Northumberland Council need to comply with modern household waste recycling standards; they say they soon will. We chose to go out and find public bins near Morrisons to recycle our glass and metals rather than bin them. Not the fault of the house-owner at all, but something to consider. A second set of keys would have been ideal, but again a minor gripe. The upstairs shower could feel more private but then again I'm not in the shape I once was! 😀

The apartment/duplex exceeded our expectations. Sometimes you turn up somewhere and the photos made it look better but this was the other way around. The photos do not do it justice. You really can see the castle right there out the french windows! The kitchen and dining space were excellent for our family to cook in and relax in. We loved the large table and the very well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are all large and the towels, mattresses, pillows, duvet and bedding are top quality. We all felt very comfortable and at home. The house/apartment was spotlessly clean. The location is perfect. It's in the town centre but feels peaceful too. It was easy to park in one of several free car parks nearby.

There's nothing that would make me not want to stay here again. For the price it is great value. Others have mentioned the lighting in the kitchen and I think that could be improved. It's not direct enough over the table for playing games. Luckily we were cooking when it was still light but it might have been more difficult in the dark due to lack of direct lighting. We weren't keen on the imposing large dried grass ornament over the table and would have preferred a light there! But I'm nit-picking because it is a wonderful place to stay and I would definitely recommend it and stay again.
