Black Spout Cottage

All of the cottage. Could not fault the property

Black Spout Cottage is a lovely wee place in a fantastic location. It’s very modern and new inside whilst retaining the character of an old cottage. Very well appointed kitchen, nice bathroom, cosy living room and lovely bedrooms. Outside the garden has a fantastic outdoor seating / decking area and, of course, the hot tub. We stayed in January during a period of heavy snow and it made for a very special week, in such a beautiful spot, with a lovely walk right on the doorstep. Contact with the host was also first class throughout, he went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable, especially considering the winter conditions.

The only thing worth reiterating from the description is the forest track which you have to drive up to the cottage. We happened to be there during a very wintry period with fresh snow which made it a real challenge to drive up the track, even in our all wheel drive car. Whilst it could be inconvenient for some, for us it added to the adventure of being in an “off the beaten track location”, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re booking in winter.

Location, cosiness, view, peace and quiet.

Another bathroom would not go amiss.

Wat ons vooral beviel aan Blackspout Cottage was de rustige ligging. De woonkamer is gezellig en de cottage ligt op een fijne plek, met mooie wandelpaden in de directe omgeving. Ook de nabijgelegen waterval is zeker de moeite waard. Een prettige plek om te verblijven als je van rust en wandelen houdt.

Wat ons vooral tegenviel, was dat in de omschrijving niet wordt vermeld dat de cottage alleen bereikbaar is via een zeer steile en slechte onverharde weg, met veel kuilen en stenen. Met een lage auto kan dit echt problemen opleveren. Dit hadden we graag vooraf geweten. Ook het contact met de eigenaar over de sleuteloverdracht verliep niet erg vriendelijk. Bij aankomst was het huisje erg koud en er ontbrak duidelijke uitleg over de elektrische verwarming en het warme water. We hebben zelf behoorlijk moeten zoeken en uitproberen voordat alles werkte. De doucheruimte is erg klein en de waterdruk is zeer laag, waardoor douchen niet prettig is. Tot slot was de houten overkapping bij de jacuzzi niet schoon en lag er veel vogelpoep. Al met al zijn dit punten die wat ons betreft duidelijker vermeld en beter verzorgd hadden kunnen worden.
