Jozankei Onsen Yurakusoan

I liked everything about this property. Outside it doesn’t look like much, but inside it’s beautiful. My room was spacious and had a view of the mountains. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was spotless. It had its own hot tub in the room, although I didn’t use it. The baths in the basement were wonderful, Also kept up like everything else. Breakfast was absolutely huge, and a standard Japanese breakfast of a number of small plates. Kind of like a kaiseki dinner, but breakfast. The staff were very nice, every single one of them. If I had anything to criticize about the staff was that only one person spoke halfway decent English. But that problem isn’t much of a problem anymore with Google Translate. They have some free food in the lounge, coffee and hot chocolate available when you want it, ice cream in the lounge in the basement. The restaurant was very good indeed. Mike kaiseki dinner was wonderful, well worth the cost. I only did it once because I can’t eat as much as I could when I was younger. But the quality was excellent. you are a 10 minute walk from the famous bridge, and a two minute walk from the tourist office. The hotel is simply a wonderful place to stay, and an experience that I won’t forget.

I have only one criticism, but it isn’t about the property. It’s about Jozankei. There are very few restaurants open at night. Two restaurants that were supposed to be open did not exist anymore. Most of the restaurants in town are not open for dinner. The hotels restaurant is extremely good, but it was more food than I wanted to eat, so the other two nights I was staying there I had to find something else. That was a bit of a challenge.

Onsen is luxurious and peaceful

We loved the ryokan atmosphere and the wonderful baths. The breakfasts were delicious, and the staff was lovely.

The beds were a little hard.
