what a perfect week!

We just spent a week in Varana and absolutely loved it! The whole concept of wellness and a healthy approach to life is visible everywhere- from the daily schedule full of activities (yoga, paddle boarding, Muay Thai, wall climbing) to the amazing gym, professional swimming pool, cooking classes, and great spa. As a very picky eater, I was especially impressed by the food. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh juices, salads, and plenty of healthy options. The restaurants across the resort offer varied menus with fresh, healthy choices, both Western and Asian as well as comfort food and excellent cocktails. Overall, Varana delivers a perfect balance of wellness, activity, and enjoyment. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and quiet, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The staff was amazing as well- a big thank you to Gun and everyone who took such great care of us. The hotel is located across the road from the beach, so if you’re looking for a reset in a beautiful setting away from the crowds, this is the perfect spot.

Amazing hotel, very beautiful, super nice staff, free yoga class, good food! Excellent location with beach club (top) and private beach.

I really want to give this hotel a 10, but I can't, for one but major reason only: every morning I got waken up at 5am by the extremely loud and unpleasant muezzin call from the mosque in the next village. It destroyed my sleep and it's the last thing I want to hear on my vacation. I cannot sleep with earplugs and honestly the hotel should warn in advance about this. Really too bad.

Lovely stay, wished I read the small print!

The room itself was lovely, we booked a poolside room, however, due to the room overlooking the Olympic pool, they have a swim-fitness class every morning at 7.30-8.30 which is extremely loud, so no lie ins! Along with this, our balcony was adjacent to 1km jogging path, so every morning at this time we had lots of people running pass our room. Always plenty of sun loungers, all the staff were so polite and friendly, everyone was just happy! Please be aware this is a health and wellness hotel, if you are an active person, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this gym. Lots of exercise and activities available, however can become over bearing at times. The breakfast menu is fantastic and plenty of local restaurants near by to eat in and drink in, which are cheaper than the hotel! The local ATM is by the nearest 7/11 which is a 5 min walk from the hotel

- on arrival a deposit of 1000 baht per night was taken, this hadn’t been disclosed previously, so be prepared - rules in your rooms, for example on the balcony you cannot hang your clothes on the rails but on the wooden rack on the side, if you are caught drying clothes on the balcony rail there will be a fine - only able to smoke in certain areas, for example outside the entrance of the room block (NOT on your balcony - again a fine!) and on the lawn which is to the back of the hotel lobby. I can see this as positive and negatives from both a smoker or non smoker. Non smoker, every time you go to your room you may have to walk through some smoke, but on the other hand the hotel is clean and is smoke free. Just one to bear in mind. - the beach club the hotel talk about is separate to the hotel. You can go through the beach club, to the beach, where there are some bean bags, otherwise you need to pay for a sun bed etc

Stunning room. Absolutely amazing staff (shoutout to Chu and Lucky). Beautiful amenities. Close to so many restaurants and small businesses. Best hotel gym I’ve ever seen. So many pools. Everything you could want has been considered. I wanted to cry when we left.

The mini fridge was sometimes super loud at night but that’s me wracking my brain to think of something negative. Other than that it was genuinely perfect.

Very nice on paper but some details making the stay less pleasant

- beautiful location, nice property with lots of greenery - rooms are beautifully designed, very comfortable beds, room cleaning always did a good job - good breakfast with many healthy options - staff always friendly and smiling

- it was a bit weird how almost everything was for an additional fee, even the smallest stuff like a custom order for a juice on breakfast, didn’t feel like a 5-star hotel experience because of that - prices in the restaurant, for SPA and massages were way too high for Thailand and the quality they offered - walls in the rooms were pretty thin. It was okay for us up because we came right by the end of a low season but it can get pretty noisy when all the rooms are occupied - it felt like the reception staff needs more training because when we asked about what’s included in different SPA packages they couldn’t get us a coherent answer. We also had an issue with booking onsen/sauna via reception: we asked them to book onsen the night before, the next day we came to the SPA and there was no one and saunas were standing cold, we went back to reception and they acted like there was no reservation made the day before, they called SPA and made it again. They told us to go back to the SPA and AGAIN no one there was aware about the reservation. We figured it out with the staff at the SPA in the end but it was very annoying to run back and forth while the whole thing is supposed to be relaxing, especially for the price they charge for one hour of using onsen.

Nice stay but needs improvement

The hotel is surrounded by greenery and has a beautiful beach right in front. The breakfast area offers an amazing view. Tuk-tuks are available to transfer guests within the hotel grounds. The staff are very polite and helpful. The Olympic-size pool is impressive, and the gym is well-equipped and pleasant.

I arrived at the hotel at 2:30 p.m., but my room was not ready until 3:45 p.m., even though the official check-in time is 3:00 p.m. During this time, my children had to sleep on the couch in the reception area, which was quite disappointing and felt disrespectful. The kids’ pool is too small, and it would be a great improvement if the hotel offered a beach lounge with direct access for guests. There is a beautiful beach lounge right in front of the hotel, but the prices are high and there are no discounts for hotel guests. Additionally, the hotel lacks changing rooms and showers for guests who need to freshen up before late evening flights. Reception staff could benefit from further training on guest service. One staff member even copied all the numbers from my credit card, including the security code, which forced me to cancel and request a new card — a very concerning experience.

The check-in/check-out process needs improvement. No one was there to meet guests, and the staff immediately started talking about possible fines - not a pleasant experience after a long trip. Check-out also took a long time, and I had to remind them about the deposit refund. Overall, everything else was fine, but the registration process should be simpler and more welcoming.

Fabulous people, service, food and facilities.

Everything! You couldn’t fault the property at all. It’s focus on sustainability, the care for their guests, the extra special touches and they will do everything they can to accommodate your needs and requests. The rooms are really clean, really comfortable and spacious. The hotel food is amazing, the service is outstanding and everyone that works there is amazing.

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Not Worthy of Five Stars Unfortunately, my experience at this hotel was highly disappointing and far below the standards expected from a five-star property. 1. Front Desk and Reservation Services: • The check-in and check-out process was chaotic and poorly managed. • The front desk staff were unprofessional, unhelpful, and lacked basic customer service skills. • Delays in room readiness and the lack of respect for booking times are unacceptable. 2. Cleanliness: • Cleanliness across the property was below average. • There were unpleasant odors in the hallways, and the furniture appeared old and poorly maintained. • Towels and bed linens were not up to the hygiene standards expected in any reputable hotel. 3. Difficult to Move Around the Hotel: • The layout of the hotel made it extremely difficult to navigate, especially for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. • There were no clear signs or assistance from staff, which added to the inconvenience. Final Verdict: This hotel is absolutely not deserving of a five-star rating. Poor service, lack of cleanliness, and uncomfortable facilities made this a regrettable stay. I do not recommend this hotel and sincerely hope the management takes serious steps to improve.

Beautiful and relaxing stay

The hotel is fairly new, with modern and beautifully designed rooms. The bed was very comfortable, and the linens felt especially soft. Even though the hotel is not small, we never felt crowded. The pools are enjoyable – highly recommended for both relaxing and swimming. Breakfast was very good. We especially loved NAAM WELLNESS – highly recommended! The hotel is about a 30-minute drive from central Ao Nang, but there are some decent local restaurants nearby. Across the road, there's a beach club and beach seating areas that belong to the hotel. That said, the beach itself is not particularly impressive – we preferred visiting other beaches in the area.

Lovely 3 days

Exceptional facilities including an olympic size pool which is really quite impressive. Very good gym. Very modern and very clean rooms. Only hotel we stayed in Thailand where we felt plenty of water was provided. Solid breakfast and very good food (but we only ordered room service). Close to useful amenities e.g. 7/11, cheaper massage parlours, laundry etc. Exceptional Italian restaurant a short walk when you turn right out of hotel - believe the chef lived in Rome for a few years.

The hydro pool experience is a little overrated/overpriced (in my opinion). Also many of the activities on offer do incur an extra fee - so worth bearing in mind if they are top of your list! Excellent food at the beach club, but would warn that it is definitely a beach club - with very loud music! But beautiful beach just in front as well.

Amazing Stay!

Pretty much everything! Slick new property with a great sense of taste and a great care for detail. Very nice staff and food too. The breakfast selection was one of the best we've had at any hotel around the world. Honestly, we had a blast!

Just one thing: the music at the pool. In a 5-star hotel we would have expected a bit more calm and refined atmosphere. Sometimes the PA system was blasting loud EDM-like nightclub music and that took us out of it a little bit as we tried to relax near the pool. How about some jazz or low-fi music? Something a little bit more relaxing, please. But apart from this, nothing much to complain about, really!

…it doesn’t offer a 5-star experience. Staff was generally polite and welcoming, but we felt a lack of management presence to provide proactive and consistent service and attention to detail. Overall, it’s still a great hotel but definitely more like a 4 star rather than 5.

We recently spent five nights at Hotel Varana in Krabi, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home. A special mention goes to the hotel manager, Mook, who was exceptionally pleasant and kind throughout my stay. Her attention to detail and genuine care for guests made a significant difference. Also the events coordinator Alex, he was kind, attentive and very friendly. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, blending modern luxury with traditional Thai elements. Our room was spacious, immaculate, and offered stunning views of the garden and surrounding landscape. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring we had restful nights after days of exploring. One of the highlights was the breakfast buffet, which offered a delicious variety of local and international dishes. Each meal was a treat! The hotel's location is perfect for accessing nearby attractions, yet it feels like a serene oasis away from the hustle and bustle. The staff riding the tuk tuks were so kind and always on standby to escort all guests around the complex. I highly recommend Hotel Varana krabi to anyone visiting Krabi. It truly exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait to return!"

Varana is a beautifully relaxing stay

This place is amazing! The rooms and facilities were clean and tidy, user friendly and well functioning. The Varana staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. The activities on offer and the pools were fantastic. The FAA spa Onsen and massage was gorgeous. The buffet breakfast was really good with lots of choices, including a juicer where you can make your own mix. The Nook restaurant food was great too. Wonderful view overlooking the hotel pools and out to the ocean from our Luxe Ocean View room.

A suggestion - The Beach Club - it's gorgeous with pool on the beach and comfy loungers and day beds, BUT the service could be more attentive. Maybe having staff roaming and offering food and drinks every so often or even just to check in on patrons and offer any assistance would make for a better experience - or have some drinks and food menus at the poolside tables or upon arrival. I found myself having to keep approaching staff at The Beach club for the menu then again to order and reorder, so I felt like I was an inconvenience.

Everything was amazing. The staff made sure to accommodate our every need, the design of the room and facilities is intuitive, the location is perfect with a gorgeous clean beach across the road. The free hotel activities were a nice touch as well - we joined the guided jungle trek which took about four hours and gave us stunning views of Krabi.

The breakfast was delicious but it would be even more fantastic if there was a greater variety of food, and different dishes on offer each day. The lobby and restaurant where we had our breakfast aren't wheelchair-friendly.

The team are fabulous, pools super clean and it’s a perfect retreat for adults. Wonderful breakfasts, clean rooms great relaxation centre with clean steam rooms, cold and hot pools as well as massage facilities.

Great Resort

We absolutely loved VARANA, from the moment we arrived until our departure. Their attention to detail was exceptional. The breakfast options were particularly important to me, as I am both dairy and gluten intolerant, but they had many suitable choices which made me extremely happy. Additionally, they had a beachfront lounge bar with a pool, which was crucial for us as the beaches in Krabi can be very crowded, and we wanted to avoid that. They also provided kayaks and equipment for beach sports, which added to our enjoyment. The location is perfect if you're seeking a quiet area, with several restaurants and coffee shops nearby. It took us about 10-15 minutes by motorbike to reach the Ao Nang market. I highly recommend this place.

The dinner at the restaurant did not meet my expectations. It was nice and good, but it didn't quite have the 'wow' factor I was hoping for.

Modern luxurious facilities. It has clearly been finished to a very high standard. They have thought of all the small details. It is very instagrammable! Staff were smiley, helpful and on hand for anything we needed.
