Fantastic location and charming place just a shame about the first night.

Beautiful old property with lots of character. Great location for enjoying Porthleven and surroundings.

We were disappointed that on arrival the heating was not working and the downstairs was very cold (blustery weather in December). The owner was easy to contact and explained that the previous guest has turned everything off which had caused a problem with the night storage heating but he hoped it would come on within 4-5 hours (we arrived at 4pm). He tried to tell me that the hot air upstairs from the fire would in fact circulate downstairs and warm it up? There was a small heater in the wardrobe that kept the chill from the children’s room, and the heating did finally come on in the early hours of the morning but I had spent most of the night keeping the fire going! Just took the fun away from the first night and not what you expect when you pay premium prices. Need to have more heaters as a back up plan ❄️

The sound of the sea through the open window, the fireplace and then spending the evening in a cozy atmosphere, followed by breakfast in the morning—that's all you want after a day of hiking and before the start of a new one. We did not meet, but by message the host was really cooperative and approachable.

The location was just right for us, a nice walk down to the harbour for a drink/dinner, easy access to the beach. The welcome pack was the best we have ever had and the vases of roses were just a beautiful touch!

Porthleven is a wonderful place to visit & The Old Stores cottage is full of charm!

Hi, Firstly I have to say that Porthleven was a fascinating place to visit. The fishing port & town is very quaint with stunning views. I personally think it is one of the most scenic places I have visited on the south coast. We were a-gasped at how sweet the harbour looked when we approached Porthleven on our late arrival with the lights surrounding the harbour walls giving us a magical view of the boats, sea, rustic houses + views. The cottage is located in a lovely location within easy walking distance to the harbour/town + beach. The host was very accommodating & was happy to allow our dog to stay at the property.

I would not go as far as to dislike anything about The Old Stores as the rooms are lovely & rustic. However, I am used to more up-to-date mod cons so it took a little getting used to for our short stay. Of course this is what is to be expected from a property that dates back to around 1805! In all a very interesting, artistic, rustic & characterful property that is run by a considerate, friendly & helpful host. BTW it is best to travel in a small car if possible to manoeuvre around the narrow roads. Thanks Mark!

Lovely quirky accommodation and nothing to fault, we will be going back again.

Fantastic location, everything on your doorstep, great pubs, restaurants and take away's but order by 8pm as most places stop serving food at at this time though apparently there is a Chinese that is open later but we did not try it.

Great location, very quirky, there was a lot we liked, mainly the decor.

Hot taps in bathroom reversed but not in the kitchen so it took a while to work out. Day too, it was very cold in the house, no idea how to turn on any heating. Went for a shower, no hot water. Sent a messsge to the owner, he never got back to us. Pressed a boost button on a control hoping it was to heat the place up, it didn’t. Had hot water in the evening. Again next morning, no hot water ! Pressed the boost button hoping it gave us hot water. Venetian blinds full of dust in the bedroom, under the beds, full of dust, ship ornament in the bedroom full of dust !

Fazit - wer sich den Urlaub nicht versauen lassen will macht einen großen Bogen um diese Unterkunft

Lediglich die Lage des sehr dreckigen Appartements ist gut.

Das war leider der dreckigste Ort auf unserer gesamten Reise mit 8 Unterkünften. Auf die Beschwerde hat der Eigentümer mit den üblichen Worten: „Es hat sich noch nie jemand beschwert“ reagiert. Er hat dann auch niemanden zum sauber machen geschickt. Die Fotos zeigen es: In der ganzen Wohnung waren Spinnenweben und sehr viel Staub. Die Teppiche und auch das Bett war verschmiert mit alten Flecken. Die Fenster waren von innen fettig verschmiert und staubig – man konnte kaum heraus gucken. Von aussen waren sehr viele Spinnenweben. Der Eigentümer sagte mir, dass die Fenster vor einer Woche gereinigt wurden. Jeder, der sich die Bilder anguckt sieht, dass das nicht wahr ist. Das Spülbecken war eckelhaft. Die gesamte Küche war mit einem Fett- und Staubfilm überzogen. Mir hat es den Appetit verdorben. Im Badezimmer ging kein Licht. Alle Sachen waren sehr abgenutzt und zudem ungepflegt – es hat nichts mit den 12 Jahre alten Fotos in der Beschreibung mehr zu tun. Die Toilette war auch ungeputzt und auf die Frage wo die Klobürste ist antwortete der Eigentümer: “I do not provide a toilet brush.“ Fazit - wer sich den Urlaub nicht versauen lassen will macht einen großen Bogen um diese Unterkunft
