The Elleray

The location of The Elleray was excellent, just a short walk from the train station which was great for us since we arrived by train and did not have a vehicle. The room was comfortable, the shower was good but could use a shelf for putting my shampoo and face wash. It was located over a pub but was fairly quiet on a Tuesday night when we were there. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby amid you can easily take a bus to the lake.

The only disappointment was that the included breakfast was only served from 9:00-10:00 and we had scheduled a tour that began at 9:00 so we couldn’t eat there. We ended up at the Booths cafe at the train station where we were to meet so that was fine.

No parking at all. Such an inconvenience for guests.

The staff here are wonderful. Each one that we encountered was very friendly and helpful. They seem to be friendly with all that are there. The are very accommodating. The breakfast was tasty and filling. I was surprised at how quiet the room was even though we faced the main street. We had a very peaceful stay.

The room was a little worn - not too much. The bathroom was spacious but the sink a bit small. These are only minor dislikes - nothing too much.

Breakfast was great and all staff were really pleasant and helpful. If we asked for anything it was always provided. We also ate one evening and the food was good, shoutout to Ginge.

To be honest the hotel was a little tatty. It needs a lot of attention, maintenance and general decor. Large cracks in the ceiling of the room, broken blind in the bathroom and rugs which I assume were being used to cover the poor carpet ,but were trip hazards, especially in the night when you do not want to put a light on. Also a broken bannister on the stairs which may be dangerous in the future. Whilst it was not an expensive stay, I have never stayed anywhere before where the rooms are not serviced. Whilst this was not a major issue it would have been nice to have known in advance and as I said anything we asked for was not an issue for the staff. All in all though, this did not affect our short stay.
