Access - three different keys were necessary one of which [access the building] did not work easily due to a faulty locking mechanism ; it necessitated multiple attempts to open the locked door at all times of day and night - in addition to the three physical keys there was a digital password required on arrival which could only be sourced by downloading an app on to one’s mobile device: such a palaver for an arriving guest such as I after a 5 hour drive to get there Communications - I was greeted on arrival by the host’s non-English speaker North African immigrant cleaner Miriam ; not one word of English spoken by her. Turned out that she knew about the faulty locking mechanism but did not have the presence of mind to say anything to me when checking me in. How ridiculous! - Gary the host, I never met ; I received multiple texts from him regarding the issues accessing the building and spoke to on the phone when I had to call him about not being able to access the apartment building because of the faulty locking mechanism at which point he told me that his cleaner was aware of the faulty building lock ! She should have told me when she checked me in !! Likewise, she should have told me about the existence of an underground car parking facility and showed me how to access it etc Process The entire checking-in process proved to be an onerous experience. Apparently there was an on site underground car park but there was no information provided proactively as to where the garage entrance door was located nor how to access the garage; apparently there was a set of separate keys for the garage inside the apartment; I never saw them. They should have been presented to me on my arrival by car from Portugal with a clear explanation as to the whereabouts of the entrance and how to access and exit the car park. The WiFi code : its whereabouts was not made clear to the arriving guest.
