Broken toilet, dirty room, unfriendly staff, bad experience

I travelled together with my mum (so a mother - daughter duo) and we shared a room. It was comfortable for us (beds were hard, we like it, but if you expect super fluffy you might get disappointed).
The location was amazing. We were able to do majority of sightseeing by foot, restaurants and shops were around the corner. Access from the airports was also good and overall access to public transport was also great.
Breakfast was good and had good spread of options for both sweet and savory. A bit limited on the vegetarian/vegan side and possibly challenging for gluten-free.
The staff was very welcoming and friendly.
Unfortunately, our room had a broken handle to the bathroom. Since we are a family it didn't bother us that much, but I can imagine this being an issue for some (we couldn't close the door). We informed the staff but perhaps due to a weekend it wasn't fixed until we left.

Just stayed one night and needed something super central. Even if the hotel isnt a 4 5 star hotel, I think the cleanliness shouldnt suffer based on the star rating. The main stuff was clean so that was great, shits, towels, mattress, but the chair, and divan and smaller details were all not properly clean.. even the curtain had some burns or brown spots on it. The mattress was hella old, but Im also heavy so someone lighter wouldnt find it as bad (but I slept just fine still, just not the best)
