Olkinyei Mara Tented Camp

Absolutely spectacular! This is the second time we are booking with Sandra and her lovely team and cannot recommend the place enough. The room was fantastic, the proximity to the park great, the overall experience - wonderful! There is nothing you will not like about this camp, we look forward to our next visit!

The room is beautifully decorated, exactly like in the photos, beds are comfortable, bed linens and towels are clean. Staff is attentive to the requests of their guests. Game drives were overall successfull with knowledgeable rangers who made us see some unforgettable wildlife scenes. I can specifically recommend full day game drive as it is something not available in all lodges. The property is overall very welcoming for kids.

The food overall not bad but nothing extraordinary either. The desserts were sponge cakes one after another, did not seem like they made big efforts. The breakfast was specifically fell below our expectations. (No cheese, no honey, no boiled egg etc.). I still dont know what is complicated to prepare a boiled egg? The coffee they serve as part of accommodation is undrinkable, you have to pay extra each time to be able to get from bean-to-cup coffee machine. Then, drinks for game drives: they definitely need a cooler box as the cold drinks get warm before noon time. There was only juice and water unlike other game drive experiences where a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options were available.

The inadequate water pressure and shower facilities. It looked to be very luxurious, but an actuality took a long time for the water to heat up enough to take a very inadequate shower. This was the one accommodation we were looking most forward to on our trip and the one we were the most disappointed with in the end. In between safari drives, there's absolutely nothing to do.The tents are so stiflingly hot that even spending time inside them, was brutal. At checkout, we were told that they could not run a credit card in Kenyan shillings, which made no sense whatsoever because of their obvious international clientele, and then added a fee for using a credit card. We booked eight different properties on this trip and not a single other property did either one of these things. We felt like what was advertised was not delivered, and were very disappointed in the end.
