Penny Red Cottage

Cosy traditional cottage with lots of character and sympathetically modernised. Great to have two bathrooms. Walking distance to centre of Ambleside and perfect location for exploring the Lakes by foot, bike or car.

Although within walking distance of centre of Ambleside, the walk is up a steep hill. Not a particular problem for us but could be for people with mobility issues. There was a lack of sufficient quantities of complementary items such as toilet paper, washing up liquid, etc. The dish washer wasn’t working. Probably biggest issue for those with children is that the small staircase to top bedrooms is completely open, with potential risks of falls.

Steep walk to property and difficulties parking if you have a large car

A shower room and toilet on both bedroom floors. Dedicated parking place close to property. Quiet location above Ambleside. Easy access to Windermere and Grasmere

Chairs would be useful in the bedrooms. Dishwasher was faulty. It would have been useful to have a surface cleaning spray and some washing powder. Stairs to top floor needed a bannister especially for elderly guests and children.

Nice cottage in a good location. Limited parking (1.5 cars) & a grumpy neighbour. Very steep walk from town centre up Kirkstone Road.

Central heating didn't work properly. Agent phoned as we were on way to say radiator in living room was blocked, but no repair done during our stay despite icy weather. Log burner inefficient and expensive.
