Tawny Lodge is a charming and cosy woodland retreat, perfectly designed for a relaxing escape. Set close to the Acomb area, the lodge offers an abundance of nearby shops, cafés, supermarkets and places to eat, making it easy to enjoy both convenience and seclusion during your stay.
Inside, you’ll find a beautifully presented open plan living space with warm wooden floors and underfloor heating throughout, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere all year round. The well equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare holiday meals, and the dining table comfortably seats two, making it ideal for intimate evenings in.
The living area is perfect for unwinding, whether you’re enjoying a quiet night in on the sofa with a movie or simply relaxing after a day exploring York. From here, doors open onto a private terrace and balcony area, where you can take in peaceful views over the surrounding woodland. It’s a tranquil spot to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening drink while watching birds and local wildlife in their natural setting.
The lodge is especially suited for couples looking for a romantic getaway but also offers flexibility for small families, with a travel cot available if needed. It works equally well for both leisure breaks and serviced stays, whether short or long term.

Tawny Lodge is very special to us. We had bicycles with us: a 7-minute bike ride to the Cathedral. And a bus downtown stops right outside the gate.
Inside everything is provided and it is spacious. The owners have taken care of this apartment in their own unique way, and with vision. Nature is important to them. The house has a very large backyard that they let go completely wild, making it very bird-friendly. We counted 16 different species. Including the namesake: a Tawny Owl, which looked us straight in the eyes one evening. To be able to see all those birds and the garden clearly, including two foxes, the owners made the fence around the big balcony/terrace out of glass. And they prune the trees right next to it, so you have a constant good view of this lovely city garden/forest. Something else special: there is a charging point for an electric car, next to their own for their own car. Especially for guests, and it is free!

Had an enjoyable stay everything as advertised. Excellent bus routes & good location had everything I needed. Quiet property loved being close to nature & watching birds. Only minor issues were the comfort of the sofa which sagged & cleanliness of outside decking which hadn’t been cleaned. Very minor issues that didn’t effect the stay.

Very comfortable accommodation although sofa is more suited to tall people- as an average height female I did slide off.
Would be useful if the directions stated that it’s between the turnings Moorgate and West Bank. As the house doesn’t have a number I had to park the car and go and look for it.
Some of the items in the kitchen drawer were not particularly clean but I guess that reflects previous occupants rather than the cleaners.
It is comfortable and convenient if you have a car. The garden is overgrown and if it was me I would have some pictures on the walls: it’s quite functional and masculine
