An option if you can't get accomm in Basel or are needing a stop on a long drive

I needed somewhere to pull up for the night after a long day's drive and Stein was the perfect stop, just outside of Basel (30-35 min drive). The room was tidy and it was a convenient stay.

The self-check-in feature I found confusing...not for the process of checking in, but I was confused where the rooms were. Turns out they are in the same building that you check-in...you just have to look for a door that says "Rooms". There are apartments all around it so at first I thought I might have to access the room from the exterior. Thankfully I found someone out for a smoke that was able to point me in the right direction. So, just a bit more clarity for those travellers like me would be grand. Also, the vestibule that you check-in smelt like a smoker's den, which put me off initially but I'm pleased to report the smell did not carry into the hotel.

Horrific

It seemed ok in the photos and description.

The bathroom was not ventilated, it had a very strong mould smell. I arrived late and there was nobody to ask to for a room change. There was nobody air conditioning or ventilation whatsoever. The outside temperature was 34° and there was nobody fan provided either. Even when the windows were open, there was still excessive humidity inside, the towels and bathroom surfaces remained wet. There was mould smell. The bedding felt humid and it was impossible to sleep on the second night. There was no wifi in the bedroom. The breakfast was very poor. The overall stay was outrageously priced. The distance to the bus stop and train station were not as the description suggested. The checkout page kept crashing and I couldn’t manage to confirm the right details for the invoice.

The breakfast could be better paying 100 euro per night. Also, not having any person from the staff at the hotel is a little bit cold.

Rooms are spacious and bright. Breakfast was okay.

Due to energy savings room was a bit cold. The shower has curtains instead of glass and there were black stains on floor tiles in the shower which make it look dirty.

Extremely soulless rooms, the shower has a curtain (which era we are living in and there is no proper shower cabin) check in problems (there is no personnel, I had to wait to get into my room).

Big and relaxing room, desk and TV. Clean. Very good free WiFi.

It needs a refrigerator in the room and better breakfast. Little decoration would be nice, there is character at all. There is no reception personnel etc so if you have any issues e.g. with lost luggage delivered by the airline courier, there is no one to receive it if you are away to morning business visit.

Needs Maintenance

Spacious rooms, good location (by the Main Street but not too loud), good breakfast. Window had a screen which isn't the usual for Europe. Solid bike stand right out front (I was traveling by bike for this trip).

Room was hot with no way to cool. Lots of maintenance and cleaning items... broken nightstand light, bathroom fan didn't work, vanity light was out, drinking glasses were dirty, trash hadn't been emptied from previous guest and had feminine hygiene products in it, shower had missing floor tiles. Not sure how much of this is still COVID related but this is Switzerland, not some 3rd world country. Checkin was delayed because of booking through Booking.com. I was given a handicapped room with a low shower head and flimsy curtain that wrapped around you when showering.

- smell in the corridors reminds you of a hospital - adding bit of eggs, hot chocolate and vegetables for breakfast for instance would be good - if you are used to humans, you won't see any staff but that can also be a plus in covid times

Ein so schlechter "Service" bei einem solchen Preis ist einfach nur unverschämt.

Self-Check-In hat nicht funktioniert und bei Anruf auf die Hotline steckte ich über eine halbe Stunde lang in der Warteschlaufe. Der Flur und das Zimmer rochen fürchterlich unangenehm nach ungetrockneter Farbe. Zudem waren viele der Parkplätze durch Lieferwagen einer direkt benachbarten Baustelle besetzt.

Also würde ja nicht sagen nicht gefallen aber was mir gefehlt hatte wäre ne Minibar im Zimmer wo man vlt getränke/snacks nehmen könnte und natürlich auch für das bezahlt und noch vlt Apps auf dem Fernsehr aber sonst war alles Solide sehr zu Frieden!

la ubicación y limpieza. La amabilidad de la chica que trabajaba alli

tuvimos problemas con el cajero del checkin, aunque ponía que aceptaba visa, el pago salía denegado. Llamamos aún número de teléfono de contacto que había allí y nos vimos obligados a dar datos personales de la cuenta para efectuar el pago. No nos gustó en absoluto. Al no haber recepción, nos vimos muy apurados.

Ontbijt was heel mager, drie sneetjes brood en 2 croissantjes en toen was het op. Wel nog wat yoghurt cupjes maar al met al heel weinig voor 2 personen. Niemand om bij te vullen.
