Very quiet, only sounds are the village churchbell and birds. House is fine, very nice balcony next to the kitchen where you can eat. The house is cool although we found the bedrooms under the roof to be quite warm. We agree with others that the mattresses are very hard and wire-enting would-be be very nice as there were many mosquitoes and other insects. There were only 2 of us, but as the (only)toilet is in the bathroom that would-be not be very practical with 6. Nice to explore the villages. Piacenza 45 minutes, Parma 1 hr, Modena 1,5 hr. Plenty of restaurants nearby. We thank our host for his kindness, practical solution for the keys and of course the wine!

My husband and I rented this beautiful home for 9 nights in September 2017. It was our first trip to Italy, and we wanted to experience the Emilia-Romagna area in particular. In the end we only stayed 6 nights, but that was because we made some last-minute changes to our itinerary once we arrived. Frank was super helpful from start to finish and very prompt in responding to emails. He gave us great directions to the house and provided suggestions for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. We were not able to coordinate a time to meet in person, but we had no trouble getting into the house and found everything easily once inside. We had two minor issues: there was no tumble dryer as listed on HomeAway, so we had to hang laundry outside to dry. We normally have no problem with this but we happened to be there during a rainy week; happily we managed, and having the washing machine was very helpful. Also, at the risk of sounding like a pair of Goldilocks, we didn't find any of the three beds very comfortable. However we recently invested in a very high-end mattress at home so it's entirely possible we have become snobs. As mentioned there was quite a bit of rain while we were there, and temperatures ranged from 11C in the hills to 23C on lower ground. Luckily Frank had warned us in advance that the typical weather was off-kilter, so we had packed accordingly. We did have a very nice fire one night to help ward off the chill. On nice mornings I sat outside on the terrace with a book and hot chocolate while letting hubby sleep late, and we dined outside a few times too. Frank generously left us a case each of his red and white wines. We only tried the red and found it delightful. What a nice treat! We had researched activities, festivals, and other events in advance of our arrival, but we did not come across "The Best of Italy 100" race until we arrived. This was a car, cycle and bike race based in Castel'Arquatto, so we were able to go check out all the Italian-made vehicles which was a very nice surprise while we checked out the castle and village. We were able to find online information regarding road closures during the race which was helpful in our planning over those three days. We took some long drives through the countryside and had some great meals despite a bit of a language barrier. Everyone was welcoming, and Google Translate was extremely helpful throughout our trip! Next trip we'll have better Italian. Excellent rental!

My husband and I have recently relocated to the Netherlands and decided to take our Holiday in Italy with our 3 grown children. Franks Home was the perfect spot for us. The small beautiful town that was perfect for us to take day trips to the ocean, Milan, Parma, and Modena. The house and it's amenities were everything we needed to hang out, cook, relax and sleep! Thanks Frank and family! We would recommend your home to all of our friends and family! A perfect spot for a family reunion!

We spent a week in this beautiful villa during a heatwave in July. The house was spotless and well appointed and we appreciated also having a fan. The thick walls and shutters kept the house cool and we loved eating out on the balcony in the cool of the evening. Frank and Gaby were delightful hosts and we enjoyed the complimentary wine. There are many interesting towns to visit in the vicinity and we made interesting trips to Cremona and Parma. We would definitely return, if possible.

We rented this property over the holidays and had a wonderful stay. It is just as it is described and Frank was very accommodating and helpful with all of our questions (there were a lot since it was our first trip to the area!). The town is quite charming and a great place to stay if you are looking for an authentic Italian experience. We found some great spots to eat in Lugagnano which is only about a 10 minute drive. We took day trips to Milan, Piacenza, Bologna, and Venice and found the driving easy. There are also smaller towns nearby like Castell'Arquato which are worth seeing. The home had everything we needed and was quite comfortable. It was also great to have internet access. I would definitely recommend this lovely home and plan on returning. We will always have lovely memories of this trip!

Our small family ( Dad, Mom and adult son) were fortunate to call Francesco's smaller apartment, home for 2 weeks while traveling in Emelia Romagna. We used it as "home base" for all the trips that took us to the sites that we longed to visit ... Parma, Bologna, Genoa, Cinque Terre. We found it delightful in that it was spotlessly clean, peaceful and soooo....cozy. The kitchen was well equipped (thank you, Frank) and the wood stove was a delight on the days when it snowed and we chose to stay home and read. Although somewhat off the beaten path, (Casteletto is teeny) a short drive to neighboring towns provided necessities and groceries for the many meals that we made made at the villa. Internet, peace, good food and family....in the midst of the Italian countryside...what more could one ask for?

I and my family (husband and two children) spent a week in May in this house. It was perfect for us; the house is charming and the rooms are nice and clean. We cooked quite a lot of food in the house and the kitchen has all the equipment you would need. We also tried the wood oven to barbecue and make pizza. The children liked that a lot. We especially appreciated the surroundings which are very beautiful. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. There are a couple of small towns nearby with shops and restaurants. We usually shopped in Castell'Arquato since it has a well equipped supermarket. The owner of the house is very helpful and nice. We got a lot of valuable information and recommendations about the area.
