The location was very good and the hotel was homely rather than luxurious. What I expected. Food in the bar was OK. Staff were all very friendly

The pool area is a bit tired and in need of a revamp. Pool itself is quit big and nice and warm, no jacuzzi and sauna could be renovated. Fried breakfast not great quality but otherwise enjoyed what was on offer and didn't really want to have a fry anyway

Hotel is within walking distance to the town. Staff (Annie) front reception was lovely, warm and welcoming and knowledgeably answered all of our questions. We had a sea view room which was a good size, en-suite bathroom/shower, very comfortable and exceptionally clean. Complimentary water and hot beverage making facilities. We didn’t have dinner in the hotel on this occasion but the menus looked lovely. We did have breakfast the next morning and the quality & choice was fantastic. Overall a great stay and we would definitely return.

Not a big deal and it was probably my inability to work it out ! The room temperature was slightly on the cool side at night. There was a remote to adjust this but didn’t seem to work. I have no doubt that reception or night staff would have been only to happy to sort it for us but it was late and didn’t want to cause a fuss. The lovely Annie at reception next mornjng said it would have been no bother and not to hesitate to ask for assistance with any issue on future visits.

My stay was perfect from the room to the staff. Would recommend and definitely stay again.

Unfortunately we did not have breakfast but the staff and accommodation was 100% The location was also excellent. I live not far from buncrana anyway so know the area very well. I had a wonderful stay.

it was comfortable , staff were helpful except in relation to eating after late arrival

not even a sandwich to be got after 9 .. no apology or regret just a bland re statement of kitchen closing times… not a piece of bread or packet of crisps !! it felt very inhospitable to be turned away without apology at 5 past 9

Wonderful

Staff are friendly and very helpful. Views are amazing. Dinner had many choices and was delicious. The team had put a candle in my hubbies dessert as it was his birthday. Very nice touch! The pool was a decent size and well looked after. Towels are provided and there are lockers in the changing rooms.

The room was quite warm and I didn't sleep well. I mentioned this at check-out and was told that there were fans I could have requested in reception. I hope this helps all future clients.

The hotel room from Hell

The cleaning staff were always courteous, kind and helpful. Reception staff not so much. I had forgotten to book meals so I did not have much to do with reception. On the few occasions when I decided to have breakfast, the dining room staff sent me to Reception to pay and on the day I was leaving Reception said that if I wanted breakfast I would need to arrange it with the dining room. I found it confusing so gave up in the end and decided it would be easier to eat locally instead. A simpler method of allowing those residents on room only to pay for meals would be helpful.

The room was horrible mainly because of the constant traffic noise. It overlooked the motorway between Buncrana and Derry so there was heavy traffic, not just cars but buses, lorries, tractors thundering past all day and all night. The weather was very hot whilst I was there so had no option but to keep the windows open. That meant I was breathing in traffic fumes. Additionally, the hotel car park was locating just outside my room so that was an additional source of noise with car doors slamming, people shouting and talking late into the night and early in the morning. The room itself was long and narrow and didn't have enough wardrobe or drawer space, just a few open shelves. Also the carpet was stained in places. It would have been tolerable if I had only been staying for a few days but two weeks in those conditions was dreadful. I have had better hotel accommodation in third world countries. Message to other would-be residents : if you stay at Inishowen Gateway, make sure your room is on the side of the hotel that faces away from the main road i.e. facing the sea.

Fabulous hotel and staff. 9/10

The staff were all amazing very friendly helpful and they couldn't do enough for myself and disabled mum. The food was delicious, and bedrooms so comfortable. We arrived on a Sunday to check out one the Tuesday LOL we ended up staying to the Friday. The weather was amazing and the beach so close. The pool sauna and steam I loved also. We loved our stay many thanks and we'll be down again soon! Love Siobhàn & Mary (mum & daughter) xx

I think the leisure centre needs a hot tub and I also would like a smokers area with some seat's and few tables outside. That's my only suggestion for some improvements. Everything else just fabulous x

Very enjoyable Gateway stay!

The room was both spacious and comfortable. The leisure facilities at the hotel were also very good. We dined in the main bar for dinner and had breakfast. Both of which were delicious and plentiful.

I could not fault the hotel, staff or food. I emailed the hotel immediately when we arrived home to express how well we enjoyed our stay.

I really like the situation of the hotel. It's beside the sea and near to Main St in Buncrana, so many places are accessible to a person who came on public transport (me) .I look forward to using the swimming pool on my next visit. The staff are friendly and the breakfast was nice. I would have preferred to have a room upstairs in the hotel, but it was a last-minute booking. The bed was very comfortable! I love Donegal and will definitely come back to explore further and be more adventurous..

I didn't like the fact that the shampoo and shower gel dispensers didn't work very well, so I was glad to have brought back up products. It is a minor detail, but the bath and shower facilities are part of the whole hotel experience..

Disappointing. Nice location but not excactly a quiet, rural retreat.

Breakfast food was excellent, coffee just OK. Room nicely appointed and clean. Staff friendly, check-in and out efficient. Nice view, convenient parking.

The stipulation, which we only found on the QR code, NOT when we booked the room, that food or drink purchased outside the hotel must not be taken to the room, is one we've never met in about 200 hotel experiences over 50 years and six continents (including some Muslim countries). This, and no fridge, would have ruled out this hotel for us had we known beforehand. As good as the breakfast was, dinner was very poor. Tasteless stodge and a travesty of a Caesar salad. During our stay the place was overrun with wedding reception parties. Fair enough, they're good business for any hotel but make for an ambience we try to avoid when on holiday. I swim in pools year round and have done for more than half a century. I can't recall the last time I met this hotel pool's insistence on bathing caps for all swimmers.

Great hotel with great location

the staff are so friendly, polite and helpful. The view where the hotel is, is just amazing. Great selection of breakfast which was buffet style but was so fresh and good quality and tasty. The hotel is extremely clean. The staff went above and beyond for us. Highly recommend the bar food also.
