Family Hotel Avlabar

This is a classic case of don’t judge a book by the cover! The exterior and the staircase of the building are older but the room was updated with a very modern bathroom. There is access to a washing machine, microwave, drinking water and a small patio overlooking the residential courtyard and some of the old town. You can get to the old town in around 15 minutes on foot, and luggage can be left at the hotel before check in and after check out. The bed was comfortable and there’s air con. Recommended, particularly for the price and location!

I needed the host’s help to find the hotel so better instructions are required. I also asked for a quiet room as I’m a light sleeper and I could still hear traffic noise as there was a small upper window facing the busy street.

The rooms are modern. The bathroom is very high-quality, and the shower has very good hot water. The room had very good light, especially at sunset, and it always got very warm at that time. The air conditioning heats up the room well. The owners are welcoming and they try their best to welcome the guests.

This is not a hotel. It's at most a hostel or a guest house. The title of the property is misleading. The owners live on the first floor, while guests live on the second. The entrance to the hotel is also very ugly, with some parts of the ceiling looking damaged and in need of renovation. However, once you enter the facilities of the hotel inside their "house" then it's completely new and better. The owners rarely clean the room, with an average of once every three days and only upon request, leaving the room quite dirty as there is no equipment for cleaning it by ourselves. The hotel is located on the main street, requiring a long walk to the historical area, although on the map, it might show up as close (around 20 min walk). The hotel is also located in a poor neighbourhood that looks quite dangerous and is not displayed in the images. This seems to be on purpose, and I had a tough time finding the place, given that the owner didn't provide any information ahead of time. Ultimately, I had to get someone from a nearby shop to guide me there. The hotel also mentions they speak English. However, my partner had to talk in Russian most of the time, given that we had a significant language barrier, which that might be hard for some people. We requested laundry service and paid an extra fee to use the washing machine. However, the owners used too little detergent when washing them, and the clothes kept smelling bad. Overall, the stay was rather under my expectations for the price paid. This hotel is suitable only for very short stays of 1/2 nights.
