Tama Ryokan

I liked the traditional Japanese atmosphere, cleanliness, comfort, and convenient location. The elderly couple who own the ryokan were very kind, respectful, and welcoming. I also appreciated their willingness to discuss the room issue and eventually provide a more suitable room for my stay.

The main issue was at check-in, when the room initially provided was very small and different from the traditional Japanese room I was expecting based on the booking and photos. I contacted Booking.com and provided photos of the actual room, and the matter was eventually resolved amicably with the property.

The cost is exceptional, getting a private room for cheaper than many capsule hotels. Convenient access to transportation. 5 minute walk from the Takadanobaba station for the JR Yamanote and Seibu Shinjuku lines, a stone's throw to the Tozai line. Quick access to Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ikebukuro. Plenty of options to eat from kombinis, Starbucks, to two Bib Gourmand awarded restaurants. The Donki nearby the Takadanobaba station is a less hectic option to shop vs Shibuya and cheaper. The staff is English speaking and will give you a thorough walkthrough of the ryokan. They were responsive to all questions prior to check-in.

Excellent location, informative manager, big room and excellent air conditioning. Had a communal fridge and microwavec oven. Overall the best value in Tokyo.

Only one bathroom and one sit down toilet for around 7 rooms
