Villa Mary

La posizione è davvero unica. Poter fare il bagno in qualunque momento senza doversi nemmeno vestire non ha prezzo.

Non c’è nulla che non mi sia piaciuto. Posso solo dire che forse una mareggiata ha distrutto un pezzo di muro di recinzione ed è stata messa una rete.

The Villa is large, clean and tidy. It has a real charm to it with the unique colors and design, each room has its own colors - You can see that when it was new, it was magnificent. The gate to the beach was something unique (note the beach is public and is packed in Aug). We enjoyed cooking our own meals there and using the gas grill.

The lawn was dry on both sides, while the pictures showed a full green lawn. While the villa was clean and freshly painted, it did show its age in many places. The rustic furniture (mostly the kitchen and bathrooms) were falling apart in places - nothing critical, but very noticeable. An ant infestation in and around the villa - leave a few crumbs in the kitchen for a few minutes and there will be an ant line forming. Coffee machine didn't work, and no electric kettle (even though it was listed). There was an old macchinetta that gave a bad taste to the coffee. There was no toilet paper when we arrived. Wifi and networking for the villa was in a jumbled mess of wires on a table and didn't work half the time.

Anna was very kind! We loved the location which was right on the beach. The house was comfortable and quiet. We would definitely come back again!

The beach is directly outside the front gates, but you can't open the gates fully to enjoy the view. The garden is lovely and there are some great facilities like the BBQ and patio.

The whole place was just a bit dirty - showers not overly clean. The kitchen had many items but missing things like a cheese grater. Overall it was just a bit tired. The number of rooms and areas was great, but the biggest issue is that there was nothing mentioned when booking that this was out of the season for the area so there was basically only one beach bar occasionally open, and one small shop. I think we still would have gone there but that information would have been nice to know in advance as without a car you would be very stuck there. I think it was firmly priced for an out of season resort. ____________ A review from a different point-of-view. Live the Sicilian-coast life with the beach as an extension to the backyard. Ms Anna and her husband were very welcoming of us English-speakers (with little to no Italian). She was ready with her phone translator app, with was very useful in showing us around her spacious house and yard. Also, she was only a text away if we needed anything. Whilst Fontane Bianche was only just starting to wake from the winter-slumber, Villa Mary was a good location to start and end each of our day's adventures within the region, without having to battle the city-drivers. Use of a car / bike is important during this time if you want to get out of town and do some exploring of the area. Alternatively, to just relax in garden / beach and take in a walk in the local area. We enjoyed several days touring the sites and countryside of southern Sicily, to the west and north of Fontane Bianche. We also took time out to relax in Villa Mary's well-maintained garden / on the deck. At night, in Villa Mary's kitchen and BBQ, we were able to prepare / cook our own food and wine, purchased in the local towns we travelled through. I also noted that Villa Mary is an easy drive to Syracuse or Avola for lunch / dinner out.
