"Comfortable and interesting accommodation. Cleaning could be improved, it did not spoil our stay but the shower and around toilet, sink drainer all need a good bleech."

Hut 34 is one of five beautifully modernised and renovated Nissen huts that are part of the former Cultybraggan Prisoner of War Camp, just a mile outside the picturesque village of Comrie. Dive into the history of this unique and memorable place.Nissen huts were commonly used in PoW camps across Britain during World War Ii. While they were only intended to be temporary, Cultybraggan Camp lived on after the war as a Mod training centre for more than 70 years. It’s now the last remaining Prisoner of War Camp in Scotland and has been named by Historic Scotland as a Unique Heritage Asset of International Value. Thanks to the vision of the Comrie Development Trust, which now owns the camp, five Nissen huts have been transformed into spacious, sustainable and modern self-catering accommodation. They’re ideal whether you’re a keen history buff or simply want a truly unique stay in the Perthshire countryside. While the huts retain their iconic external design, they’ve all been given a major facelift with a bright red roof, crisp white exterior front wall, and black door and window trim, providing an Insta-worthy contrast to the vivid greens of the surrounding Aberuchill Hills. Inside, Hut 34 has been completely transformed with a spacious open plan living room, fully-equipped kitchen and dining space, full of natural light. Blond wooden floors, cream interior walls, pale furniture tones and the white cabinetry of the kitchen add to the sense of space and calm. There’s comfortable seating including a sofa bed and television for when it`s time to relax, plus a dining table with seating for 4.The separate bedroom contains a king size bed, and there’s also a modern separate bathroom with a shower.Key Features Fully modernised, renovated huts.1 bedroom - 1 x King & 1 x Double Sofa Bed 1 modern main shower room.Open plan kitchen and lounge areaDining table that seats 4Fully equipped Kitchen Situated within the former prison of war camp.LocationCultybraggan Camp is situated two miles outside the picturesque village of Comrie, in the heart of Perthshire. You can learn about the history of the camp at the informative PoW exhibition, which includes a recreation of prisoner accommodation.Take a visit to Comrie village where you’ll find local shops and places to eat, with more options a little further along in the larger town of Crieff.Comrie is a great base for exploring all the delights of Perthshire. Families will love a trip to Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre, set in the Perthshire hills, home to a variety of exotic and more familiar wildlife. Golfers are spoilt for choice with lots of quality local courses, or the famous Gleneagles is just half an hour’s drive away. It’s a walker’s paradise with options at all levels, from the Glenlendock Circular Walk that starts in Comrie, the popular and wheelchair-friendly Lady Mary’s Walk at Crieff, to the mighty Munros of Ben Vorlich, Stuc a Chorin and Ben Chonzie.Just a quick heads-up: there`s a cattle grid at the entrance of the camp. We loved the scenery and the wildlife. The cafe was really nice with friendly helpful staff. Hut 34 was well equipped, the shower was good, the kitchen had everything we needed. The museum was interesting with knowledgeable volunteers. We had a short trip into Comrie and liked the pub there. The community orchard was very well stocked. Auchingarrich Wildlife Park was great. An on site shop for essentials would be handy.

The accommodation was absolutely lovely, comfortable, great amenities. The location was so special and peaceful. I will be a regular here! I'm a veteran of Airbnb both in the UK and America and I can honestly say this is the best self catering accommodation I have had the pleasure of staying in. It was clean enough, but could maybe benefit from a deep clean a bit more often.

We liked staying here : and in particular the fact there was an onsite cafe. This saved us shopping for food during our stay. The only downside was that the hut was quite cold when we arrived. Granted there was an electric heater but we were unable to switch on the central heating. Also the pillows had seen better days. They were flat and very much needed replacing.

Great location for Loch Earn and Trossachs National Park. Pretty unique accommodation. Huts very well kitted out and basic essentials provided (coffee, tea, sugar, oil and washing-up liquid etc.). Even has boot trays to keep the floor clean and tidy. Comfortable, high quality, clean and quiet. Would definitely book again- shame about the weather!
