Karoo House Collection - Riverdene Lodge

It was a pleasure to meet the host and his lovely children. The accommodation is a farm house in a quiet valley of the Klein Karoo and the peacefulness was out of this world.

Due to circumstances beyond the hosts control, recent storms had affected a great deal of the gravel access road and the rocky surface made it very slow going and difficult for a normal sedan vehicle.

A Wonderful Stay at River Dene We arrived at River Dene in the late afternoon, with a gentle drizzle setting the scene. From the moment we arrived, Kelly gave us such a warm and homely welcome that we immediately felt at home. What an awesome house! Everything was comfortable and thoughtfully provided, with comfortable beds and all the facilities one could ask for. It didn’t take us long to get the indoor combustion fireplace going, which quickly warmed up the living room and created the perfect cosy atmosphere. By then, the outside fire was going nicely in the private boma, and we settled in to enjoy a relaxing braai. Sitting around the fire, surrounded by the peacefulness and tranquillity of the area, was exactly what we needed. River Dene is one of those places where you can truly slow down, relax and enjoy your surroundings. The combination of the beautiful setting, comfortable accommodation, warm hospitality and private boma made our stay very special. A big thank you to Kelly for making us feel so welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return to River Dene. Highly recommended!

Perfectly remote, the guest house offered reliable WiFi and everything we needed for a wonderful stay. Thoughtful touches such as firewood, tea, coffee, rusks and hot water bottles, together with a hot tub (which unfortunately we ran out of time to use), made our stay feel especially memorable and welcoming. High clearance vehicle is required.
