The Stables, charming converted, 2 bedroom Cottage, Melrose

The Location was really nice. We were within walking distance of Melrose. Lots of sightseeing not too far from the Darnick. The shower is really nice. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage was relatively clean. It was very nice to have a garage to park our car in because there was no street parking. The cottage is very spacious and was comfortable. The beds and linen were very clean.

We were told that we would receive a code on the morning of our check in to the lockbox for the keys, but we never received one. So we contacted the owner who apologized, then gave us the code, but on opening the lockbox, there were no keys. We had to contact the owner again, who apologized and said that has never happened before. He then had to come over with a set of keys for us. He promised to bring us a bottle of wine later in the week, but instead we got a large slab of chocolate which none of us eat. Nice thought though, but the wine would be been better. The non stick pots in the kitchen could be replaced as they are so scratched we could not use them. The cleaning crew could give the cottage a thorough spring clean every now and then.

I was a little nervous about this one given some of the poor reviews but in the event it was a great wee place. Yes, it is quite tired and aspects could do with the deep clean or refresh but that's reflected in the price. At the end of the day the bedding was fresh, the cutlery and glasses were clean as was the majority of the property. It was well placed for walking into Melrose via the disused railway line at the back of the house. A great location for exploring the borders so I would recommend. Plenty of safe parking within a stone's throw.

Spacious and comfortable.

The property needs a thorough clean. More disappointing was the lack of reference on the Booking.com site to the location of the bathroom downstairs....a good way from the principal bedroom. As for the "outdoor dining area" and "patio", this was a total misrepresentation of what was actually available. There are no acceptable outdoor facilities.
