Olde Post House, Rathmell - Settle

Lovely place to stay. Good location, comfortable, clean and warm. Close to all the places we like to walk.

Great location, cosy cottage with comfortable beds. Good value for money.

The bathroom had a bit of an odour which might be because of the age of the property, but we kept the door closed.

Clean, well-presented & well-equipped house in the Rathmell village, about a 6-minute drive from Settle. Both bedrooms have a ginormous bed, the heaters are effective at warming the house, there is instant piping hot water and the wifi is good. It seems that the owners have taken note of previous reviews as handrails have now been installed in the stairwell. It is nicely decorated & furnished throughout with new-looking carpets. My only gripe is that I didn't find the sofa or armchairs comfortable to sit on, but that may just be compared to what I've been used to. There is a small/free car park opposite the house, and there was never an issue getting a space. There are several footpaths close to the cottage, mostly across livestock fields so watch out for the cowpats! But it is far better to drive the 5-10 minutes for some amazing walks in the hills (e.g to Austwick, Langcliffe ...), exhibiting some of The Yorkshire Dales finest countryside. It's a shame that there are no local amenities, but there are some great pubs within easy reach by car. I recommend The Maypole in Long Preston or The Game Cock in Austwick, both of which are VERY historic and have good food options. Also within easy reach are the Ingleton Waterfall Trails and the Settle-to-Carlisle railway, both of which are very pricy but worth doing. (We went as far as Appleby on the railway.) The Ribblehead viaduct is also amazing and worth a close-up look. Overall, a very nice place to stay, and a great base (with just a short drive) for some fantastic walking, nice villages, great historic pubs … and we hope to return sometime.

Just been wary when exiting the car park. Cars travel fast on that road, and it is difficult to see if anything is coming from your right until you're virtually out in the road. Be aware that if it is important to have amenities (shops, places to eat/drink …) within walking distance, Rathmell is probably not the place for you.

Beds very comfortable, spacious bedrooms, convenient parking, easy check in.

Knives blunt, beds were not well made, almost looked like someone had just slept in them and hastily made them. Stained bedding, dried food on plates, bathroom smelled awful and wasn't particularly clean.
