Kyoto Kamanza Hotel

I cannot recommend this gem highly enough. It's tucked away on a picturesque side street but within easy distance of the subway and a mere 4 stops from Kyoto Station. It's also an easy twenty minute walk from the Kyoto Gyoen. The beds are comfortable, the bath is luxurious, and the vending machines are well stocked. The staff is also very kind! It's great fit for an independent sort of traveler or just anyone who wants a good base to explore Kyoto from before turning in for a bath and a nightcap. Oh, and the lacquerware? Gorgeous.

Small hotel, great for those who prefer smaller places over mega hotel buildings. There is a small lobby with some seating but don't expect the facilities of a large hotel building. Quiet neighborhood (seriously, it's silent outside!), while still being close to transit options and nearby plenty of convenience stores and food options. There's an indie music venue literally around the corner too that I wished I had checked out but will have to save for next time! Room was spacious and great value after coming from Tokyo and Osaka :) Unfortunately, no view out our window. The window was not clear, I assume for privacy reasons since our room was on the first floor, but the windows still get lots of sunlight. Staff was kind and helped with any issues we had. Protip: the red light on the shower vent means ON! Green is off. To their credit, they included a helpful guide in the room for operating the toilet, vent, and so on, so was my bad for noticing that they did mention red is on for that, oops. Wifi is separate to each room. Ours was not working when we arrived, but staff had it fixed by end of day. TV was also not working at first but I looked behind and noticed the plug had wiggled out. Only local channels, no option to cast to TV. No laundry in building. There's an ice machine and vending machine on the first floor with drinks, coffee, and alcoholic beverages of several types! There's also a station to grab additional towels or amenities as needed. No pajamas/loungewear provided! Even though it was mentioned on the website. Not sure if they stop providing overall, or just because it is summer. AC worked well and is adjustable via remote.

Overall a great stay. Convenient location on a quiet street. Room was spacious and clean.
