    This is an excellent hotel located in the nicest part of Kyoto. Prices vary but if you catch it on a weekday you cannot find a better value. Spacious. Light. Comfortable. Perfectly located on a quiet street. Everything you need with a few blocks. Highly recommended.

    Overall, the location of the hotel and facilities of the room were fine, albeit the mattress likely is harder than what many Western tourists would prefer. The real problem arose on the 3rd evening of my stay, where I walked into my room (ground floor) and encountered a large garden spider (easily larger than my palm) crawling atop of and then into my duvet. I photographed the spider and informed the staff member at reception, whose immediate response was that the cleaning staff were unavailable, as it was 8.45pm. After a half-hearted search for the spider and an offer to fumigate the room (which I declined as it was bedtime), I was told there was nothing that could be done due to Japanese cultural practices surrounding spiders ("I can't kill it/it's there to stay...") and there were no available rooms for the night. I understand that it was a tough position for the staff member to be in, but overall I considered the response to be unprofessional - many foreign tourists will not appreciate a large spider roaming their hotel room, much less inside the bed. I ended up checking out of the hotel that evening and staying elsewhere. I was refunded USD $20.14 and a 500 yen Starbucks card for the inconvenience. Overall, I wouldn't return - there are plenty of other hotels in Kyoto that offer similar, if not better services. Beware of the inflated reviews for this hotel which have been encouraged by receiving a free Starbucks gift card.
