Yamate Rest House - Male Only -

We stayed here for just one night in June, as we were passing through Shinjuku, but it was a perfect stay. A friendly host, great facilities and AC in the room. A little noisy in the morning as people get up to leave, but that's just hostel vibes!

Clean room, good location, nice staff, cheap accomodation

The receptionist/owner, Masuda, is exceptionally kind, approachable, and always willing to assist, which creates a very welcoming and reassuring environment for guests. The accommodation is thoughtfully arranged and has a well-organized, secure atmosphere, somewhat similar to a military-style dormitory, making it both practical and comfortable for daily living. Each bed is designed with convenience in mind, offering ample space underneath for storing a suitcase, along with a personal drawer at the foot of the bed for keeping your belongings organized and within easy reach. The entire place is very clean, well-maintained, and comfortable, allowing you to relax and feel at ease throughout your stay. Another major advantage is its excellent location—everything you need is almost just around the corner. Convenient stores such as 7-Eleven and FamilyMart are nearby, and the train station is also within easy walking distance, making commuting and daily errands very convenient. Overall, it is a clean, comfortable, and highly convenient place to stay, with a friendly community that makes the experience even more enjoyable.

Thin walls made it easy to hear noise from other rooms, and the beds were quite hard with no cushioning. The showers are only available until 10 p.m., and there’s a smoking area on each floor, which we didn’t expect. On the positive side, it’s just a 5-minute walk from two JR lines and close to plenty of restaurants. The staff were attentive, and while there’s no laundry on-site, there’s a laundromat a minute away costing 700–1400 yen depending on the machine. Not ideal for everyone, but those on a budget might find it an acceptable option.
