Gilly's Cottage

Lovely cottage. Very clean and nicely decorated. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable living/dining area. Spacious bathroom with both bath and walk-in shower. Comfortable bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe space. Free car parking. Excellent location - only a couple of minutes walk away from the beach and centre of Hope Cove but far enough away to be quiet. Treat box was a nice touch on arrival. Would stay here again without a doubt.

The only criticism I would have is a lack of privacy as it's very close to the other cottages and people were walking by the windows to get to and from their accommodation and the car park. Having said that it didn't ruin our stay at all but others may not like it.

Incredibly clean with all the facilities needed for a family of two (and a small chihuahua). Fantastic, peaceful location for long dog walks. We are all happily tired!

Had to scrimp on the hot water to get in two showers a day. Could imagine this was tricky for families of more than two people.

Small tv and faded ins to use the tv , Difficult for someone with poor vision and the instructions were not readable as they were so faded . Couldn’t find live tv ! In a car park with no privacy at any window . People parking so close to the windows ,even facing the bedroom window ,! No private outside seating area for the cottage . Expensive for what you got .Lastly big disappointment with the so called posh hamper . Says on the small box “Tuck in! “ We had tiny bag of kids gummy sweets , not enough t bags …3 ! For 2 people ?. same for hot chocolate ( 1) horrible milk sachets , not enough . So we had to drive out again to get some . No shower gel , perhaps that’s the norm but it makes a big diffence to provide a small amount .

The cottage is nice and bright. Good shower, comfy beds, easy walk into Hope Cove BUT the description / pictures of it are misleading. See below.

The cottage is in a corner of a car park! This only becomes clear once you've booked and get direction to the cottage. The shared outside space is across from the car park. On the one side where the window doesn't face the car park there is a foot path leading to flats right outside so that people walking past can easily look inside. So no privacy anywhere. Depending on your neighbours you also have to put up with the noise of gravel being driven on right in front of your windows and their voices late at night. This happened to us luckily only one out of three nights. I asked for a free cancellation after I realised that the cottage was in a corner of a car park and just got the standard reply that this booking was without free cancellation. No reply to may complaint about the misleading / missing description of the property. Sykes cottages do not answer their phone and the messages I left were unanswered. Whilst the cottage itself is nice, I would not recommend staying there.
