About this house rental

Joanne's is a cozy lakefront cottage situated on farmland, this newly renovated cottage is a perfect getaway for couples and families looking to relax and explore South Vancouver Island. Joannes on the lake is located on a quiet, trafficless road surrounded by lots of farmland and situated directly on Quennell Lake. It is only 15 minutes from Duke Point ferry terminal, 25 minutes from Departure Bay ferry terminal and 15 minutes from YCD. Grocery stores and restaurants and bars are 10 minutes away.

Joanne's has been newly updated and features a beautiful deck for morning coffees and outside barbecue dinners. Joanne's can sleep 4-6 people comfortably, with two bedrooms with queen beds, and a pull-out couch in the sitting area. It is a bright and open floorplan with a fully functional kitchen, dishwasher, wash and dryer. There is air conditioning, in-ceiling speakers, and 75-inch television.

During your stay, take advantage of the lake life and enjoy the private dock. Quennell Lake is widely known for its bass fishing and is active in the spring and summer. We encourage you to bring and use your own lake activities to enjoy on the lake. Car-top boats can be launched from the boat launch which is only minutes away. At night, enjoy the evening with a fire in the custom-made fire pit.

Joanne's is a cozy lakefront cottage situated on farmland, this newly renovated cottage is a perfect getaway for couples and families looking to relax and explore South Vancouver Island. Joannes on the lake is located on a quiet, trafficless road surrounded by lots of farmland and situated directly on Quennell Lake. Joanne and Lee the caretaker thank you for letting us stay at your place of paradise. It was a wonderful background for us to visit with our grandchildren from Northwest Territories. It offered a place for them to run around, feed the goats and chickens with a dock to fishl. I wish I could keep your place a secret but I know I need to share. Once again thank you very much for a wonderful vacation!!!

The property was beautiful. Peaceful lake, wildlife, and goats and chickens! Lee was very accommodating. Excellent message response time. He even brought us some delicious eggs from his chickens. The kids enjoyed fishing from the dock, even though they didn't catch anything. 😂 The house was clean, comfortable and well stocked with kitchen items. I highly recommend the lake house!

Second year in a row staying at the lake house and it was just a wonderful visit. The kids always had something to do - swimming, fishing, frog catching, feeding the goats, exploring the property. The house was clean, the kitchen had every amenity, gas stove/bbq. We had an amazing time and we’ll definitely be back!

We were so happy with every aspect of this stay. Country living (complete with goats, chickens, deer, rabbits and a pig) in a beautifully designed home. The living spaces, indoors and out, allowed our party of 4 to get together for meals and games and also have spaces for some “alone time”. The kitchen had every dish and appliance necessary to afford ease in cooking whatever we dreamed up in our 5 day stay and the air conditioning was greatly appreciated during our fabulously sunny July visit. Our host Lee was gracious and accommodating and quick to respond to any questions as well as providing additional linens and a dozen eggs from the chickens! We brought kayaks and a row boat to paddle on Quennell Lake and explored it every day. Truly one of the best VRBO experiences we’re had in many years of travel. Thank you!

The cottage is just beautiful and the setting can’t be beat! Lovely for a restful stay in a beautiful environment. Lee and Corrie were very helpful with a couple of minor issues. My husband enjoyed fishing from the dock with the fishing rod that was supplied. He even caught a couple of fish! We will definitely come back hopefully for longer next time.

The most stunning and ideallic place to stay! There was nothing Joanne’s didn’t have to offer. We fed goats, talked to the chickens and had their fresh eggs, we had wonderful dinners outside using the bbq, took some dips out on the lake - the place was stoked with everything for cooking and baking, plus more towels than we could ever use (both bath and outdoor). The interior and exterior is so beautiful and kept so, so clean. The furniture is so cozy and comfy, plus they’re equipped with games to play with the family. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would LOVE to come back again and again! We didn’t want to leave!

Joanne’s on the lake was the perfect getaway for us! The private dock was perfect launch for going bass fishing and paddle boarding, the gorgeous decks, beautiful shady landscaped side offered a refuge from the sun, numerous games or a huge tv for the evenings. We’ll be back for sure!

Staying on the property was so nice! My 8 month old loved seeing farm animals for the first time, and the property was so nice to get away and relax. Having a fire right by the lake felt like we were much farther from home than we were. The house was clean, and had ample amount of towels, pillows, bedding and kitchen supplies that we didnt need to bother the host for extras. We loved that the house came fully equipped with all the kitchen goods (even an air fryer!), and basics like seasonings and kitchen staples. The host was amazing and allowed us to meet the pigs and was quick to respond to any requests. 10/10 would visit this home again. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

Every imaginable convenience, impeccably clean, beautiful setting with the sights and sounds of nature to begin and end each day. Lee, the host, lives next door and could not have been more gracious. The best Vrbo experience I’ve ever had, and I’ve had some good ones. Cannot think of any possible way to improve the experience, except to stay longer. Lee was a wonderful host, going out of his way to make us feel welcome. He even put his own eggs in the chicken’s nesting box so our grandson could ‘find’ them for breakfast in the morning. We were delighted to find that he had turned the heat on for us before we arrived so the house was warm. He also supplied us with flour to thicken the gravy for our Thanksgiving dinner (which we had forgotten) It was a wonderful place to spend time reconnecting with family! The farm animals were friendly, the grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The house was lovely, and the views stunning! Don’t hesitate to book this place for a fabulous experience!!

Our family had a wonderful stay at Joanne’s on the Lake. The home is comfortable, wonderfully furnished, spacious and provides everything one’s needs to relax with your family. The property was more than expected - such a serene environment. Paddle boarding and lots of fishing were our highlights as well just relaxing with our books in the ample available outdoor seating. Hearing and seeing all the animals in and around the property was a bonus too! Definitely plan on returning.

Great, quiet spot. Lots of outdoor sitting and eating areas (6). Right on the lake with private dock and spectacular lake for kayaking. Updated modern house. Had 2 couples for the full stay and Daughert/Son-in-law stay the first night in the pull our sofa. Lots of room and very comfortable. Full kitchen amenities and huge tv and steaming services for evening time. Nice to have the farm animals for visiting and the occassional egg from the hens or to feed and oet the goats. Would love to come back again.

We were impressed with the comfort and amenities in the cottage. Everything we needed was there. Beautiful deck to sit out on, and a nice dock and lake to swim in. We enjoyed our stay immensely. It had all the amenities that anyone would need. The home and property is beautiful and peaceful. The only downside was the “lake weed!” We could not convince the kids to get in the lake with so much visible lake weed! Lol! The fire ban started the day after we arrived and Lee purchased a propane fire pit so that we could enjoy our evenings outside and make s’mores with the family! My littles enjoyed collecting eggs from the chickens and feeding the goats on the property. We would highly recommend at stay at Joanne’s!

We recently spent 5 days at Joanne's and loved everything about it. It was so fun to feed the goats, check the chickens and hunt for frogs and tadpoles. It was clean and spaceous and had everything we could need without being cluttered with things we didn't need or would have had to worry about the children damaging. There were so many places to gather outside and enjoy the beauty around us. coffee on the back deck before people woke up was my favourite, but we also enjoyed the gazebo area and the large lawn area and the fire pit. Everyone in our family said they would like to come back for a longer holiday next year.

The property itself will be more than you’d expect from a lake house. They have rolling hills with wildflowers, grazing sheep and wildlife passing by. We interacted with their friendly goats, the chickens provided fresh eggs and they even had a vibrant garden with fresh raspberries. The views are beautiful, the grounds are neatly kept and charming. The house is newly renovated, impeccably clean and provides all the comforts of home. The lake is warm and peaceful. We swam, the kids caught fish and frogs. We paddled and enjoyed the sunshine from the dock. They have a fire pit with comfortable seating, the kids roasted marshmallows and stargazed into the evening. After a long active day, they slept peacefully in very comfortable beds. The property owners are very friendly, and hospitable. It’s great having them right next door in case you need anything! (We found an injured bird abd they came to the rescue right away) (the bird was fine!) We really enjoyed the stay here and it has been the highlight of our summer. It’s really a hidden gem! Pictures don’t do it justice. Can’t wait to come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Joanne's on the Lake. The pictures do not do this property justice. We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of mosquitoes and loved the sounds of the animals on and around the lake. The kids enjoyed checking on the chickens and finding the egg(s) each day and the goats were fun to watch. The dock on the lake was fun to see frogs, tadpoles and attempt to fish. There were plenty of kayakers and boats out on the water fishing every day. The house was so open and airy with the breeze in the evenings. We had dinner under the pergola in the gardens beside the house every evening. It was very relaxing. The proximity of this property to Nanaimo was perfect to be able to feel like you were in the middle of nowhere while only a short drive from almost everything! It was a nice break from the noise of the city - all we heard were birds, frogs, sheep, and the odd rooster. On our last evening there, the hot weather broke enough where we were able to have a fire and star gaze. We do recommend making sure you bring any pantry supplies if you plan on baking or cooking anything requiring more than salt and pepper. We made sure to ask ahead of time so we were prepared. This is the only thing I can make as a recommendation to improve the stay next time. All of our questions and requests were responded to very quickly and the owners were a pleasure to deal with. We would be very happy to come and stay here again!
