    Rustic Open Plan Home
The house is quaint with character and is well equipped. There are plenty towels for guests to use. We liked the open plan style of the house however this won’t suit everyone as the upstairs bedroom/ shower & bath area is open plan to the bedroom and staircase down to the rest of the house. The upstairs toilet is also open plan so you have to be cautious who’s going about if you use the upstairs toilet or shower. We loved the size of the upstairs area, plenty space and a huge shower! The shower head is a relaxing rain shower. The upstairs bedroom has doors leading out to a large balcony area which was ideal. The outdoor table on the upper decking didn’t have any chairs so we moved 3 chairs from the corner of the garden up to the top deck so we could sit outside in the sunshine.
The mattress in the bedroom downstairs needs replaced as it sinks in the middle. The pool looked lovely but we were unable to go in it as the water was very cold. The pool is in the shade most of the day which is due to a very big tree on the property. The tree is magnificent though, just a shame it prevents the sun from getting to the pool and lower decking area as this would be a lovely place to stay all day, by the pool, sunbathing but you can’t. The only place to sunbathe after lunch time once the sun hits the tree, was on the upper bedroom deck or on the driveway which isn’t very private as it faces the road. Some window blinds were broken, the owner was informed of this issue. Some other items in the house were shabby or broken - we informed the property manager of the small issues. Some general maintenance is required to rectify the issues we mentioned. The braai was broken but the owner arranged a replacement braai which was kind, unfortunately the braai didn’t turn up till our second last day, we would have liked to have cooked outside during our stay but we couldn’t, we had trips planned for the last 2 days of our holiday. It’s noisy early in the morning with dogs barking and the Hadada birds but you soon get used to it. There was no aircon - only 1 fan unit in the house. We went to Clicks Chemist to buy 2 portable fans as the upstairs area of the house gets very hot, we struggled to sleep at night without a fan either side of the bed. Electric meter was at 170.00 when we arrived and it went down quite quickly. You have to buy your own electricity which we found strange as we didn’t have to do this in a property we stayed at last year in Hout Bay. When booking this property there was no mention of the fact we would have to buy electricity. Also the property listing included aircon as one of the facilities but there is no aircon, this was a big factor in our choice of accommodation this year so booking.com need to check and verify facilities better.

    A Week in Hout Bay
Loved the location. House is spacious and has everything you could possibly need for a long stay. Beautifully decorated and well looked after. The hosts were kind enough to make provision for my infant so children of all ages are catered for. My family and I enjoyed our stay and intend to return some day.
While the expectation is for us to top up electricity should units run out during our stay, our stay was towards the end of the month and ran into the beginning of the following month. The guest book states that electricity is topped up at the beginning of each month, so we were of the impression that they would be topping up as a new month had begun. This was unfortunately not the case, as we were advised to buy electricity ourselves after reporting it was running out.

It was a location to spend time with family.
We just had a problem with parking our caravan which the hosts new about, but the neighbours were very accommodating and we could park it safely on street parking.
