Good value for money , and location to amenities

Bathroom was a bit dated but it was clean

Ours was a literally a last minute booking. The Nelson came up first in our search, £60 a room was a bargain, but we upgraded to £80 for a suite because we are a large couple and wanted a king-size bed. We could not have been more pleased. We were put in Lady Hamiltons Suite, large bedroom, even bigger bathroom (with big jacuzzi bath) and a separate lounge. It was amazing! So yes, like many Victorian hotels in seaside towns the place is tired in terms of decor and the bed was not the most expensive/newest we've slept on, but we slept really well and enjoyed our jacuzzi bath. The chandeliers gave an air of grandeur whilst the many plug sockets catered for our modern gadgets. The man on reception was lovely, and was there when we arrived and there when we left, the continuity was nice, although somewhat tiring for him no doubt. Would we return? Most definitely.

We paid £110 pn room/Suite 106. Flickering lights in the bathroom and hallway. Jacuzzi bath that didn't work at all (no explanation offered on arrival), no shower unit. Curtains didn't close properly throughout. The bed/ mattress was extremely uncomfortable so much that we both woke feeling sore and achey and in no way refreshed. Only windows that opened were the one in the bedroom and the small one in the lounge (all others were just painted over) there wouldn't be a viable fire exit should we have needed to leave in the case of a fire trapping us in the room. Debris all over the "balcony" well if you could call it as such, it's just looked like a dumping ground for unused equipment. No TV in the bedroom area. We were not very impressed at all
