Very nice apartment

I stayed at this apartment while in Bonn for a week of meetings. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, although I did have to get used to sleeping on a water bed. The family who owns the flat are excellent hosts. The apartment is in a nice residential neighborhood north of Bonn. I had a car, although bus and train transportation stops are close by. There is a grocery store within walking distance. I look forward to staying here again.

My family of two adults and two children (11 and 16) spent two weeks in Germany in August. We rented 4 apartments using Home Away. This apartment was definately one of the nicest. Everything is very new and the owners thought of many little touches that really made the stay very pleasant. Although we only had one bedroom, we still had plenty of space. The pull out bed in the main living / dining room area was very large and it was very comfortable. In the US pull out sofa type beds can very uncomfortable; however we only stayed here two nights, so worst case my kids could rough it; however the pull out bed was very comfortable and my kids never complained. It we had a complaint, the apartment does not have a washing machine, so if we would have stayed here longer it could have been an issue, but only staying two nights it wasn't an issue for us. In addition, the apartment is close to a neighborhood bus stop; however the apartment has these awesome external blinds. When the blinds are down it blocks out all light and sound. One note from a previous review, if you are from the US, the apartment is on the 2nd floor (in the US we call the ground level the first floor). We would recommend this apartment.

Pleasant 1st floor flat in the village of Hersel

This is a very pleasant 1st floor flat in the village of Hersel. It has one double bedroom and a sofa bed in the kitchen/diner/lounge. (NB HomeAway description is wrong in saying it has 2 bedrooms). The owners live underneath in the ground floor flat so there and there was no problem getting the keys even though we arrived much later than planned. It is newly refurbished and well equipped but no dishwasher or washing machine. Hersel is a pleasant village between Bonn and Cologne. There is a good local train service from Hersel station (10 minutes walk from the apt) to Bonn (10 min) or Cologne (40 min). There is also a bus service from right outside the house which goes between Hersel station and Bonn. The same tickets work on trains, trams and buses. Tickets can be bought on the bus or froma machine on the train. NB the machine on the train only accepts coins. There is a 40 euro penalty for travelling without a ticket but nobody checked ours during the whole week. If there are 3 or more travelling together the 5 persons day ticket is good value. There are 4 supermarkets in Hersel. Penny is nearest the apt and is open to 10pm. Edeka has a a better selection. None of the supermarkets are open on Sunday, but the local village bakers are – one is also a café. There are also 2 pizza takeaways and an Italian restaurant – Osteria da Ferrarri on Rheinstrasse – which is very friendly and good food.

Die Ferienwohnung kann ich bedingungslos weiterempfehlen, da sauber und schön eingerichtet. Die Gastgeber waren familienfreundlich und stets hilfsbereit, z.B. bei Vor-Ort-Auskünften. Eine kleine Sache hätte ich da vielleicht noch zu bemängeln, der Dosenöffner hat bei mir nicht funktioniert ;)

Die nette kleine Wohnung hat alles, was man während eines Kurzzeitaufenthalts benötigt. Sie ist auch überraschend gut an öffentliche Verkehrsmittel angebunden: der Bus nach Bonn (in die eine Richtung) und zur Straßenbahn nach Bonn oder Köln (in die andere Richtung) hält praktisch direkt vor der Tür und fährt alle 20 Minuten. Wenn man sich die Abfahrtszeiten einprägt ist die Fahrt ins Stadtzentrum von Bonn sehr rasch zu bewältigen.
