HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE AREA
Punta Braccetto, already inhabited in prehistoric times, was used by the Byzantines and Normans as a landing site to secure their ships. At the tip of the so-called “Braccio della Colombara,” the “Torre Vigliena” was built between 1595 and 1607 to defend the coast, which was frequently attacked by Saracen pirate ships. In the “Canalotti” area, characterized by high cliffs and deep waters, the Allies landed in 1943.
