About this apartment rental

The apartment is located in one of the oldest buildings in the neighbourhood of Alfama, its foundations date back to the twelfth century. It was partially destroyed by the 1755 earthquake and later was rebuilt by the Count of Arcos, viceroy of Brazil, to its housing in the eighteenth century. This is a unique opportunity of staying in a charming apartment, refurbished in 2013 , in a building that is part of the history of Lisbon, Portugal and Brazil. Well situated in the district of Alfama, the oldest quarter of Lisbon, and probably the most authentic. Of Arab origin, its name means “fountains”. Ramble through and lose yourself in it's medieval narrow streets, its alleys, squares and patios. Also near the Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol viewpoints, and walking distance to the castle of St George. Surroundings: - the Pantheon is within a 10 minute walk - Castelo São Jorge 15 minute walk - Rossio Square and the train station are within 1500 metres from the apartment. - Santa Apolónia train station 10 minutes walk - Underground 10 minutes walk - Tram 28 only 50 meters away - Restaurants and all facilities nearby. Traditionally a fishing community, Alfama still retains a lot of its old charm. You’ll see terracotta rooftops, white-washed walls and flower-filled balconies. Historic, picturesque, charming and nostalgic. This is Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district. You’ll find some of the best fado bars here along the cobbled streets. Just follow the music!

Overall we had a very nice stay. Within 5 minutes walk, there are at least 15 restaurants (many with evening fado), 2 great pastelarias, and 3 markets. It is also easy to get from the Santa Apolonia station and to walk to the Praça Comercio for trams. It's not a very quiet neighborhood as a result but that's probably just Lisbon's enthusiasm. Steep stairs (but just one flight) to get into the flat which is, in fact, charming and a bit funky in terms of layout. Washing machine worked great (there is a decent drying rack but not a dryer), and kitchen perfectly functional. Current coffee maker takes Nespresso pods, available at local market, FYI.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The location was great and we loved the hosts restaurant recommendations too. It’s an older apartment with one flight of steep stairs up, but nothing that isn’t common for the neighborhood. Lots to do and explore nearby, the host even helped arrange a taxi for us to the airport at 4am. Great place to stay!

This is a fantastic place to stay in residential Old Town Lisbon it's Central and close to everything and it makes you feel like you're living in Lisbon and not just a tourist. The apartment itself is fabulous it's super clean and comfortable. Furnishings are all up to date and comfortable. It's beautifully designed and has all of the amenities that you will need. I loved waking up in the morning and opening the shutters and windows onto a light filled Square, and loved shutting the shutters at night to put myself into a dark sleeping cocoon. I wish I could have this as my summer home! The management of the property was fantastic. They were responsive and gave me all the information I needed up front. Check-in was super simple, they met me at my preferred time to give me the keys. Check out was even easier, I just left the key and walked out. During my stay I had a couple of questions and they were always very responsive, answering within an hour. The one caveat is that the apartment is on the second floor with a steep set of stairs leading up to it, so this may be difficult for someone who's mobility challenged. Also a tip: Uber and Bolt are not allowed to drive in the old town residential streets, but licensed taxis can. So coming from the airport or the train station catch a licensed taxi, and when you leave make a reservation for a taxi otherwise you will be hauling your luggage up and down a very steep street.

I will stay in any apartment Juan Batiste manages. Helpful, kind and upfront. Sweet apartment with everything you need for a long or short stay. Bed was fine. Nice clean bathroom and room to move around. Kinda noisy at night but I didn’t care because we wanted to be in the thick of things. Would stay again. Thank you Juan.
