About this space
A lovely farm cottage that was our family home for 18 years before we built further up the hill. Fully renovated, this cottage is situated on our sheep and beef 1500 acre farm, and is beside the Catlins Lake . Stroll down the driveway and catch a fish, before breakfast or sit on the balcony overlooking the lake and just chill. Lovely and quiet, it is the perfect spot to unwind and great base to explore the Catlins. Farm trips to stunning sights on our farm or moving stock with Karl dependant on weather and farm commitments.
The space
Newly renovated, this cottage is warm and dry. There is a fire for the cold days and doors to open onto the deck on hot days. A full kitchen with the basics is for your use. Games, magazines and conversations to be had instead of looking at screens. No TV but DVD player.
This sheep and beef farm will have stock in the surrounding paddocks for you to look at and sometimes pat and feed.
Guest access
The whole house is for your private use and the lawn.
Other things to note
WiFi is available. For meals...The LumberJack is a favorite of ours but bookings are required. The Bake-house does takeaways and Pizza's, the Catlins Inn has bar meals till late. Kaka Point is 20mins away with The Point restaurant.
Jacks Bay is a mere 7km away so walks on the beach, looking at sealions and swimming are close by.

A beautiful farm cottage with history. I'd forgotten had read that was no TV, so was a shock initially but since were either out hoping to see the Aurora or tired frm busy day this really wasn't an issue.

We stayed four nights in this older farm house. There’s so much room, a nice big kitchen and the view and fresh air were wonderful. The beds had lovely linen but were softer than our liking. The single bathroom was on the opposite side of the house from the bedrooms. Other furnishings are a bit tired and shabby, but we were not really at the house very much because there is so much to explore in the area. We also appreciated Melanie letting us stay one night up the hill at her studio as I didn’t book the five nights I thought I booked; she was really gracious about that situation.

Melanie and Karl’s house is very comfortable with beautiful views over the green countryside and Catlins Lake. It was so tranquil. Loved watching the cattle, horse, chickens and sheep go about their daily routines - not much happens, but a lot of socialising
