Kadensho, Arashiyama Onsen, Kyoto - Reopening on 2026

Love the fact that it was so relaxing and quiet coming from Tokyo, specifically what I needed

Everything was really great but would like to make note that it seemed to be understaffed and even though the personnel was very much inviting, attentive and efficient they also looked overworked. They need more help. Me and my husband booked a massage and the woman giving us the massage was alone and had to come out in the middle of the session to take care of the front. She got interrupted and therefore my "relaxing" experience was too. She was very kind and I still had a great massage but the interruption was not ideal.

Check in was a very long time and in the heat it is difficult to find anything to do for so long if you get there early and nothing was suggested to us by the staff. Overall lovely facility

The rooms were spacious. The hotel is beautiful and they provide with many amenities, including noodles at night, yukatas, and laundry. The public hot spring baths (onsens) were really nice, especially the outside one. They also provide free access to private onsens. They also allow purchasing services like massages.

While really close to Arashiyama bamboo forest, it is far from the city center, requiring 2-3 changes and 30-40 min to reach. It wasn't too bad but we did have to account for the extra time when doing excursions.

The location is close to the train in Arashiyama and the local sites nearby.

They have a no shoe policy which is fine, but they do not hand you slippers and are expected to walk to your room through the halls and elevator barefoot. All other hotels I stayed at provided slippers for wearing in the halls as necessary. The room doors are sliding doors with one small lock that can make it a bit uncomfortable for safety, as well as sounds coming into the rooms from people in the hallway. This hotel was advertised as 4 star with amenities but it felt like 2 or 3 stars in comparison to other 4 star hotels in Kyoto and Tokyo. The hotel is far from any restaurant open later than 6pm for dinner if you do not plan to eat at the hotel. The price was also non-refundable over a month before arrival, so I could not change plans without losing a ton of money.
