Kadensho, Arashiyama Onsen, Kyoto - Reopening on 2026

This was a lovely hotel located very close to the famous bamboo forest and equipped with private and public onsen. The amenities were excellent, the hotel provided everything you could ask for, including a cold drink and an ice-cream after using the onsen to cool down. We absolutely loved our stay here, the spaces are landscaped beautifully - even the smoking area was landscaped with great taste! We did not opt for breakfast during our stay, but other reviewers have mentioned it's great. We will definitely try it the next time we are in Kyoto!

The private onsens were amazing! I wish I could have stayed longer to take advantage of them more! The staff were also very helpful, especially when I needed my luggage sent to Haneda airport in Tokyo.

Twin beds, would have preferred a queen instead.

The location is close to the train in Arashiyama and the local sites nearby.

They have a no shoe policy which is fine, but they do not hand you slippers and are expected to walk to your room through the halls and elevator barefoot. All other hotels I stayed at provided slippers for wearing in the halls as necessary. The room doors are sliding doors with one small lock that can make it a bit uncomfortable for safety, as well as sounds coming into the rooms from people in the hallway. This hotel was advertised as 4 star with amenities but it felt like 2 or 3 stars in comparison to other 4 star hotels in Kyoto and Tokyo. The hotel is far from any restaurant open later than 6pm for dinner if you do not plan to eat at the hotel. The price was also non-refundable over a month before arrival, so I could not change plans without losing a ton of money.
