    We stayed for six nights at ANA Crowne Plaza in Kyoto. This was number two in our 23 day trip around Japan. We are both travel agents and have certain expectations of hotels. Our room was very good. The bed was a little soft and the room had an odd smell, especially the bathroom which smelled of urine and cigarette smoke. This tends to be in keeping with our feeling that much of the hotel is in dire need of renovation. This being said, the hotel was perfectly located for us walking distance to NiJo Castle. Having experienced Kyoto train station and all it’s chaos and confusion, we decided to use Uber for our other visits to the arashiyama bamboo forest and the Gion district which were short rides away We enjoyed eating at the Chinese restaurant in the hotel where Service was excellent especially notable was Kiho. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast each morning where the service was also excellent and especially liked looking at the waterfall. After breakfast. We went outside and I stood by the waterfall and did my morning Qigong practice while several Koi looked on hopefully expecting to be fed. One other person who must be mentioned is Dennis the bell captain from Ukraine? Who spoke excellent English and Japanese? Very pleasant and very helpful young man. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its location and the attention of the staff and hope that the minor issues related to room smells and the need to be renovated are dealt with in the near future
