HEBE Bungalows Lodge

The staff at Hebe Bungalows Lodge were excellent, I would like to mention in particular Sajada, Veronica, Ester, Swaumu, chef Anthony and last but not least the owner, Nathalie, who 'fixed' any problems with no fuss at all!! Not just those mentioned but the cleaners, gardeners, restaurant staff and even the Maasai guards were all very helpful, great staff all round!!

For a month stay we felt a little isolated with only 2 other options to eat and no shops or bars within walking distance at all, a 10 USD taxi was required to do any shopping at all which was a little disappointing. The local mosque (Zanzibar is almost 100% Muslim) was so close to Hebe that we could have rolled a marble across the road to it, this coupled with the fact that the bathroom windows are nets rather than glass and our visit coincided with Ramadan made for some very loud early morning calls so if you go, avoid the holy month of Ramadan!!

Absolutely amazing place for group of friends, family with children or just traveling alone. The room was clean, bathroom was clean and shower got good water pressure and was properly hot, staff was more than helpful and food in the hotel restaurant - delicious. The bungalows was a show stopper, especially with safeguard next to them, so no street sellers won’t come to bother you while chilling. Overall amazing experience and definitely recommend!

There were times when electricity cut down, but its normal considering that Zanzibar gets it from the continent. But generators helped. Apart from this everything was perfect.

I am totally gutted to have left this little corner of heaven!! If you are looking for a boutique small lodge to rest and breathe and take your time at your own pace you just found a precious gem in a very local spot along the huge pristine beaches of Zanzibar!! I arrived for my week at Hebe nearly at the same time with the new Owner, Nathalie a fantastic woman full of ideas and energy to improve even further this lovely secret spot in Zanzibar. We immediately connected and it was already for me the perfect beginning. I had time to fall in love with the great chef's Anthony delicious food and his wonderful Swahili fish soup and big and rich fish plates. I could have gone on forever. Special mention to all the staff that was always ready to help with a big bright smile Esta Veronica Sedjica and Samuel at the cocktails. A super A team of young and very professional guys and girls willing to make your stay simple genuine and unforgettable. I am now very curious to see how Nathalie will improve even more the place and might return again soon!! Rooms are few, cosy simple and yet with a character. Loved everything of it especially the sleepy cow that everyday came to sleep on the beach by our lodge!

All perfect, my room needed some minor improvements in terms of design which the new management is already planning. Lots will be made even better!!

The staff at the restaurant was very friendly, rooms were clean and really pretty. The whole hotel is appealing and has direct access the the beach. The food in the restaurant was delicious.

The location of the lodge has some disadvantages: first the lodge is situated right next to a mosque which woke us up every early morning/ late night for the first prayer (we are aware that Zanzibar is a muslim island but the mosque is literally in front of the gate so it's unreasonably loud). Impossible to have a calm relaxing sleep. Second the infrastructure to reach the lodge is really poor. It takes a while to reach all other sites of the Island as the lodge is remote. If you pay by card (which is obvious considering the prices of the hotel, trips etc), the lodge automatically added 3% to cover their own local bank fees (in addition to the fees of our home bank), so we paid double fees.
