The Candlemakers

I don’t know where to begin, super cute apartment, spacious, well appointed, clean. They’ve preserved the history of the building adding in tasteful upgrades. Great communication with owner and lovely welcome items when we arrived.

the location is excellent, and kitchen was well stocked. plenty of room for 2 couples.

the en-suite bathroom - the shower is tiny and if you were 6ft 3 there would be no chance of fitting under the shower. Also the tiny sink, the water in the shower didn't run away and filled the shower tray up to the top . Decor in the double room was a bit hap- hazard with creasing in the corners!

The location was perfect for us: we needed a base for walking Hadrian’s Wall. We were pleasantly impressed with the property, the high quality of the furnishings and the decor and we loved the quirkiness of the building. The Candlemakers had everything we could have wanted, it was warm, comfortable and relaxing. Our just had thoughtfully provided us with artisan bread from ‘The Grateful Bread’ bakery in Hexham and also ground coffee from another local shop; those little touches meant a great deal to us and encouraged us to seek out more local shops.

We had a small problem with a water leak behind the cistern in the en-suite. We had noticed that the floor was constantly wet. It wasn’t until water was found dripping through to the ceiling below that we realised the scale of the problem. Despite the lateness of the hour we phoned our host who reassured us and told us she’d sort it in the morning.

The house was simply gorgeous- so beautifully decorated and comfortable we were incredibly impressed.
