Oyama Guesthouse Kyoto

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Oyama Guest House Kyoto! The rooms are a perfectly adequate size for two people, and having an air conditioner in the room was a huge plus for staying comfortable. The house is well-equipped with three toilets, so there was never any waiting around. One of our favorite spots was the rooftop terrace, which you can use anytime until 10:00 PM. Up there, you’ll find two washing machines available for just 300 yen, and you can easily hang-dry your clothes under the terrace roof. The absolute highlight of this place, though, is the elderly lady who runs the guest house. She is incredibly friendly and helpful, Honestly, she treated me so well that I personally felt like her own grandson! Just a quick tip for future travelers regarding the accommodation tax mentioned in some other reviews: this tax became strictly mandatory as of March 2026. Some booking platforms include it in the total price, while others handle it separately upon arrival, so just keep that in mind. Overall, a lovely, cozy place with unmatched hospitality. We highly recommend it!

You need a good 30 minute to the city, but thats alright

シャワー入る時の脱衣所がカーテンひとつだけなので、他の人が来た時に不安。 テレビのチャンネル数がひとつしかないが、特に見ない人であれば問題ない。

Die Gastmutter war sehr freundlich und Hilfsbeit, mann konnte sich auf englisch unterhalten, die Bahn und einkausmöglichkeiten sind unter 5 minuten erreichbar, es gibt die möglichkeit für 300 Yen [Münzen] die wäsche zu waschen.

The room was spacious. Kind enough to look after our luggage for the day after our stay. Close to the station

Only one toilet and shower for all the rooms. Downstairs toilet locked at night. Greeted by a poster of Kyoto’s most wanted as we walked in which was a little alarming. Didn’t feel unsafe though.
