A brief escape to Japan in the close in suburbs of Vacouver BC.

Avis is a warm and wonderful host The accommodation is in a private and spacious one bedroom apartment on the lower level of her beautiful Japanese-like house. There is a zen garden outside the front door.The house is like something out of Architectural Digest. The location is in an upscale suburban location with tree-lined streets and close to a variety of cafes and restaurants. It is a quick drive to Granville Island and the city center. I am a senior with bad arthritis, so I found the staggered steps from the street level gate to the apartment challenging But for someone younger and more able-bodied than me, this rental is a rare find. My wife and I highly recommend it.

Too many issues for the cost of the stay.

It is a large, beautiful house. The shower was hot and the water pressure was great. The gardens were lush. The house was decorated in an Asian decor that was light and airy.

1. The property owner lives in the house. The first night we were there we learned she moves to the basement when she rents the house. There is no door between the house and the basement-making me uncomfortable. But the next 3 nights he rented out the basement to 5 people. We never met them, but we could clearly hear their voices upstairs. 5 strangers in the same house with no security in between was unnerving. 2. The house had many amenities, but they did not always work. She did a good job of responding when we contacted her through Booking.com. Though she gave us a phone number to call, she did not answer her phone. We ended up not realizing that at first and had no electricity for a while trying to figure it out. Without electricity, we had no internet, and phone service in the house was intermittent on my husband’s phone. Connecting through Booking.com was a challenge, but we did get lucky somehow and she responded. 3. The owner is living in the house and her freezer and refrigerator are full of her food. She did make a little space in the refrigerator for our breakfast items. The kitchen has no microwave or toaster. The pod coffee pot did not work. And the freezer locked for a period of time after opening once, so retrieving ice at different times was a challenge. (Some of this would have been funny if it was one idiosyncrasy.) 4. And for me, the bed was so hard I could not sleep on it. As a side sleeper I woke up in pain after 2 hours each night. (My husband slept fine. If one likes hard beds this would not be a problem) *It was a very expensive lodging and there were entirely too many issues. We ended up leaving a day early.

Carpet was dirty, but there was a vacuum so I cleaned it. Kitchen counter was a little dirty. It was way too bright to sleep well because of streetlights shining in the windows.

Bar the lack of A/C downstairs Yo-Yo’s place was really great.

We enjoyed everything about Yo-Yo’s property. The location was quiet and mainly foot or bicycle traffic. Queen Elizabeth Park was a short distance away. There was a surprise basket of snacks and the kitchen had all one needed to cook your own meals, which we did. The freezer even had ice cubes.

We arrived on a 28 degree day and while there was a form of air conditioning in the bedroom upstairs, the downstairs was very hot & stuffy. Even a simple floor fan would’ve helped stir the hot air.

Entry door needed a better lock system hard to open. We only found a couple of older towels in a draw to use. And TV was in An Asian languages

Very comfortable, had everything we needed for our stay for the week. Bed was very comfortable, heating was great but we were also able to open the windows for fresh air on a few of the warmer days. Washer/dryer, cooking facilities all came in handy.

Loved the owner of the lodge! Was very helpful with my questions before and during my stay. The lodge was an apartment to I myself and contained everything we needed (as well,wasn't cluttered with unnecessary items.) It is a 12 minute walk to the train and buses. Very conveniently located to many restaurants and stores on Main Street.

Perfect for a visit to family.

Location was perfect for us. Main Street is walking distance with places to eat, even in the snow. Property had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable. It was quiet and we didn’t have trouble parking. We had some meals in. We would go back again.

Needed tea towels. We only watched a bit of tv but couldn’t change the sound.

It is truly both Lovely and Private

Yoyo's was truly lovely and private! Loved the walkability and safety of the neighborhood, its proximity to many good restaurants and coffee shops. Unlike much of Vancouver, parking was truly available nearby. Although we did just fine without a car. Uber is now plentiful and reasonably priced. Loved this place, we definitely will be back! We were there 3 nights and although behind the main house never had reason to see the host.

My only suggestion would be to put a few hooks on the wall to the left as you enter for coats. Especially when coats are wet.
