My Grandmas A casa das avós

This is a small cottage in a very small old village. It is so charming and the view from the balcony is just stunning. My second visit and it did not disappoint!

It was hot and there is no AC.

The views from the terrace are simply unbeatable - vineyards, mountains, the river Douro, the occasional cruise boat and the little train running along the other side of the river and over the ironwork bridge. This cosy rustic house is in a peaceful tiny village, walking distance to the train station to catch the train west to Pinhao and Porto or east to the Spanish border. We enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant 5 minutes drive away by the river. Rita was an exceptionally helpful host, responding quickly to WhatsApps and kindly giving us a late check-out.

Our little car struggled to get up the short, steep narrow road that zig-zags up to the village when it was loaded with our suitcases. Parking in the village was tricky, we followed Rita’s suggestion and parked right at the top and walked down to the house.

Host was very kind and helpful, we communicated via booking messaging without issues. The place is having an amazing view on Douro river. It is located in a quiet old villages, among the vineyards. The train stop is 5 minute walk distance, so it is easy to get along the Douro river. Who looks for a peaceful place, this is a right spot.
