The Strand Road Guest House

Was convenient to stay there as we were touring around Ireland. Staff were very friendly and helpful, food in pub of high standard. Although we knew there would be no breakfast there was instant porridge to start the day with.

I guess our review is because we are of the older generation, there was a wedding celebration going on at the back of the bedroom, yes the music was loud but that’s how it is nowadays, everyone having a great time, when celebration was over lots of happy people were in the street, chatting loudly, seem to disappear after a while but then returned when I suspect taxis turned up ! If we had been informed prior to our stay we might have booked elsewhere, as had happened with a b&B previously, their electricity was going to be off so gave us a choice what we wanted to do as it was at breakfast time. Also Shower was very slow to drain. As long as the newly weds had a great time !

When we arrived the room was freezing as there was no heating on. My wife had to turn the radiator on herself as no instructions were left as to the heating. The heating was turned off by the staff when they were locking up for the night. The contact phone numbers left on the wall did not work. Next morning which happened to be my wife’s birthday, the room was so cold that we left to find heat in a cafe. We returned several hours later to a still freezing cold room. I had to go to the bar to request the heating be turned on. A lady was very apologetic and turned the heating on. As the day was freezing & raining hard we decided to watch tv but we could not as the streaming service was not linked to the tv in our room. I requested help to fix the problem & waited in the room for at least 1 hour. No one came to sort it out. We left for a few hours and on returning we saw that the tv was still not working. It was my wife’s birthday & we were totally fed up so we left & returned home.
