The rental is all about the view, which was stunning. The house is private, away from the cruise ships and chaos, yet close enough to amenities. The house was very clean/tidy and well appointed with what you will need. The hosts were friendly and easy to deal with. Again, this house is right beside the fjord and the view is the reason for us renting.

I was surprised at having to request/pay for linens. I am not sure that I actually got charged but the very fine print did say there would be a fee. The shower drain situation is odd. The bathroom floor is the cleanest ever, as a result! The living room furniture and all linens need to be replaced.

The house itself is comfortable, spacious, and well equipped, and we appreciated the peaceful surroundings. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the apartment was a pleasant place to relax after a day of sightseeing. We also enjoyed that the beautiful historic farm museum at Otternes is within easy walking distance and is well worth a visit.

The biggest problem by far is that the location is presented in a misleading way. The listing creates the impression that the property is located in or near Aurland. In reality, it is not within walking distance of Aurland or any other town or village, and for most travelers a car is effectively essential. This is nowhere made sufficiently clear in the listing. We relied on public transportation and therefore experienced major logistical difficulties throughout our stay. Even reaching the nearest bus stops requires walking along the main road, and there are no nearby shops, restaurants, cafés, or other services that can be reached comfortably on foot. What made this particularly frustrating was Booking.com's own description, which states "Guests loved walking around the neighborhood!" We found this extremely misleading. There is essentially no neighborhood around the property. Apart from the lovely walk to the Otternes farm museum, the only practical walking route is along the highway to reach the bus stop. The transportation situation should also be explained much better. Neither the Booking.com listing nor the information provided in the apartment contains any useful guidance about the local bus service, even though it is the only realistic alternative for guests without a car. The buses are relatively infrequent, the system is not straightforward for visitors, and we spent a great deal of time trying to figure out how to get to and from the property. Another unpleasant surprise concerned the checkout expectations. After arriving, we found a notice stating that guests could be charged additional cleaning fees if they failed to vacuum and mop the apartment before departure. This requirement was not mentioned in the listing before booking.
